Bob-ombs (originally formatted as Bob-Ombs) are living, moving mechanical bombs with eyes, feet, and windup keys on the back. They are generic enemies that first appeared in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, a non-Super Mario game that was later remade as Super Mario Bros. 2. Since then, Bob-ombs, along with Shy Guys, have made more reappearances than any other enemies introduced in the same game. Their appearance, intelligence, and status with Mario differ widely from game to game. They are usually a bluish-black, but some variations are pink or red. They also flash red and sometimes make beeping sounds if they are about to explode.

Bob-Ombs (unhyphenated as Bob Omb in the cast roll) are enemies in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2. In Japanese, this incarnation is known as「ボブ」(Bobu, Bob), and have arms and no wind-up key, unlike later appearances. They have red arms and hands in original versions, but later versions as well as BS Super Mario USA change them to beige and give them fuses. They are first found in World 3-3. A Bob-Omb explodes shortly after chasing the player character, typically after being dropped by an Albatoss, or if picked up by a player character. Certain grass tufts from World 5 contain Bob-Ombs, as well as some from jars indefinitely.

Bob-ombs appear again in Super Mario Bros. 3. Its instruction booklet strongly implies that the enemy was previously seen in an earlier game, presumably referring to Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. Yoshi can either swallow Bob-ombs instantly or stomp to defeat them instantly.

Bob-ombs are common enemies in Super Mario 64 and its remake. When Mario is nearby, a Bob-omb lights up and chases after him, no longer by touching him, but only from its explosion, taking away two units of Mario's health and possibly defeating nearby enemies. A Bob-omb releases a coin when defeated. A Bob-omb can be defeated directly either when kicked or by picking one up and throwing it. Bob-ombs are found primarily at Bob-omb Battlefield, where a few operate cannons, and do not go after Mario. The game adds a few varieties, including the friendly Bob-omb Buddies and the enemy Chuckyas, as well as the boss Big Bob-omb.

If a Bob-omb is picked up and put down, it leaps through the air before exploding. Bob-ombs are thrown by a Monty Mole first in "The Beach Cannon's Secret" of Pinna Park, then in "Uncork the Waterfall" of Noki Bay when Mario approaches. The Bob-omb can be sprayed with FLUDD to become blue and then thrown at the Monty Mole to attack, with three hits being required to defeat Monty Mole. Bob-ombs can appear in "King Boo Down Below" of Sirena Beach as a result of King Boo spinning the slots to the enemy pictures.
====New Super Mario Bros.====
Bob-ombs return in New Super Mario Bros., working similarly as in Super Mario Bros. 3. They are found in Worlds 4-5 and 7-5, as well as during the battle with Monty Tank in 6. A Bob-omb stops moving from either a stomp or a fireball from Fire Mario before exploding. They can sometimes destroy blocks, which can be necessary to obtain Star Coins. The game adds the Kab-omb variety, found only in World 8-8.
====Super Mario Galaxy====
Bob-ombs emerge from Bob-omb dispensers in Super Mario Galaxy. Some of them have legs and can move around, but most are motionless. The first type behaves like in Super Mario 64, chasing Mario briefly before exploding. Spinning the walking Bob-ombs is now required before they can be picked up, though not the motionless type, but they light up and flash upon being picked up. Bob-ombs can destroy cages as well as Chomps. Bob-ombs are featured in the Bob-omb Blasting at Battlerock Galaxy as well as Dreadnought Galaxy, where Mario gets rid of trash piles on behalf of a Gearmo within thirty seconds for a Power Star.

Bob-ombs are enemies New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are similar to their appearance in New Super Mario Bros. Bob-ombs are first found in {{world link|3|castle|World 3-Castle (New Super Mario Bros. Bob-ombs can be stunned from a stomp as usual. The manga adaptation of the film, titled Super Mario: Makai Teikoku no Megami, replaces the Bob-omb with exploding mushrooms.

Bob-ombs are enemies in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake. They are first found in Mole Mines, around the mining mountain of Moleville. Bob-ombs can explode to inflict heavy damage to a player character, though their stats are low. Punchinello also summons Bob-ombs during battle, and near the end, he tries to summon a a huge Bob-omb, only to end up being squished. Punchinello also uses the Microbomb and Mezzo Bomb varieties in battle. Booster Tower also adds the Rob-omb variety (including from the Para-bombs thrown by Booster higher up), and the location also has a dormant Bob-omb for bouncing higher. Bowser's Keep also has a battle course with Rob-ombs represented as Bob-ombs on the map, as well as an action course where Bob-ombs chase Mario while he balances on a ball inverting the controls.

The Wario's Battle Canyon board in Mario Party features Bob-ombs and Bob-omb Buddies fighting, but stop fighting by the end. Both types of Bob-ombs are willing to launch players from their cannons if paid ten coins. Bob-ombs are in the minigames Hot Bob-omb, tossing a Bob-omb to one another until it explodes, eliminating one of them, and as the ball in Bombsketball.

Bob-omb is Wario's default partner in Mario Party 3, with a health and attack rating of one each and a salary of three coins. If the Bob-omb harms an opponent, the player loses the Bob-omb. Bob-ombs can sometimes appear in Crowd Cover, meaning there is a picture of them underneath.
====Mario Party 4==== | |||
Mario Party 4 features a Bob-omb as a host for Battle Minigames, and Bob-ombs also appear in some minigames: Reverse-a-Bomb, where players try to direct Bob-ombs to harm their teammates; Bob-omb X-ing, where the player dodges Bob-ombs for as long as they can; and Bob-omb Breakers, where players can surround them with blocks for points. A Bob-omb is also the host for Battle Minigames, appearing whenever someone lands on a Battle Space.
====Mario Party 5==== | |||
Bob-omb is part of the Bob-omb Capsule in Mario Party 5, exploding if its space is approached three times and subtracting twenty coins from the affected player's total. Bob-ombs are spectators in the minigame Defuse or Lose, and have a direct role in Dodge Bomb, where players try to dodge them. Bob-omb Cannon and Bob-omb Wall are both vehicle parts in Super Duel Mode.
====Mario Party 6==== | |||
Bob-omb returns as part of the Bob-omb Orb in Mario Party 6, except it halves the number of spaces that the affected player is yet to travel. Bob-ombs are in some minigames: Odd Card Out, as a possible card; Treasure Trawlers, exploding and stunning the player with them temporarily; Money Belt, where opening a box with one incapacitates the player briefly; and sometimes Shoot Yer Mouth Off, as one of the solo player's commands.

Bob-omb is a non-playable character at Bob-omb Avenue in the Shroom City mode of Mario Party Advance. He and Bob-omba are members of a Bob-omb gang led by Big Bob-omb. He offers a Gaddget to the player if they know the password, revealed to be "Baboom" at the item shop Junk, and once the player returns to give said password, Bob-omb gives then the Shroom Slide Gaddget and considers them part of the group. The ending reveals that Bob-omb became the leader of the Bob-omb gang later after Big Bob-omb retired. Besides the character, the Bob-omb species is used in Bob-OOOM! to get rid of Bowser statues.
====Mario Party 7==== | |||
Bob-omb is part of the Bob-omb Orb only in Pagoda Peak in Mario Party 7, now launching players lower on the board. They are also in one of the chests at Neon Heights, also launching whoever opened it, and as part of a Bowser Time event at the Grand Canal where they destroy the bridge and replace it with only Bowser Spaces. Bob-ombs are in some minigames: La Bomba, where the solo player uses them to try and eliminate the team players; Cardinal Rule, as one of the cards; Bob-ombic Plague, essentially an eight-player variation of Hot Bob-omb; and in Boxing Day.
====Mario Party 8==== | |||
Bob-ombs are in a few minigames of Mario Party 8: Cardiators, appearing from one of the cards and exploding to inflict five damage to the opponent; Bob-ombs Away, where the solo player avoids Bob-ombs thrown by team players; and Moped Mayhem, where one is a racer.
====Mario Party DS====
Besides the returning Bob-omb Breakers, Bob-ombs are also in the minigame Goomba Wrangler in Mario Party DS, where circling one causes a player to lose Goombas from their total.
====Mario Party 9==== | |||
A Bob-omb sometimes falls on to the vehicle at Bob-omb Factory in Mario Party 9, exploding after ten spaces and reducing the captain's total number of Mini Stars by half. Bob-ombs are in some minigames: Bomb Barge, where players dodge Bob-ombs falling on their raft constantly; Bombard King Bob-omb, where players attack King Bob-omb with them; and Logger Heads, incapaciating a player if they hit one.
====Mario Party: Island Tour====
Bob-ombs are featured in the minigame Bob-omb Aplomb in Mario Party: Island Tour, where players kick Bob-ombs away before they can explode. Bob-ombs would have been tiles in Match Faker, as shown in a Early Match Faker.png, but they are featured in Tap Dash.
====Mario Party 10====
Bob-ombs are non-playable characters in Mario Party 10. They appear in a few minigames: Bob-omb Combo, players throw Bob-ombs at several other Bob-ombs, trying to explode more than their opponents; Bob-omb Bogey, as obstacles that take away fifty points; Fruit Cahoots, also as obstacles; and in Meanie Match, as a selectable enemy.
====Mario Party: Star Rush====
Bob-ombs return in Mario Party: Star Rush. They are part of more minigames: Goomba Gold Rush, sometimes leading Goombas and exploding if hit, damaging Goombas nearby; Tiles and Tribulations, where matching three Bob-omb tiles results in an explosion that destroys other tiles nearby; Splat-a-Stamp, as a possible design; and Pop Quiz, alongside other enemies.
====Mario Party: The Top 100====
Bob-ombs retain their role in various returning minigames in Mario Party: The Top 100, including Roll Call (this time as the only possible species), Revers-a-Bomb, Defuse or Lose, Triple Jump, and Logger Heads. Bob-ombs are also in [[The Final Battle! Certain Event Spaces feature a Bob-omb that allows a player to ride a minecart to the opposite side. Bob-ombs are in several minigames: Absent Minded, Rattle and Hmmm, and Lit Potato (the latter retaining their role from Hot Bob-omb).

Bob-ombs are non-playable characters featured at King Bowser's Keep in Super Mario Party Jamboree. One Bob-omb is at the edge of a gear on the left side of the Bowser Byway, and should a player pass it if the Bob-omb is in front instead of coins, the Bob-omb hops off and explodes, taking away five coins. An Event Space on the north side features a Bob-omb that lights up, chasing the character into a red Warp Pipe, taking them to the Bowser Byway. Bob-ombs are visible in the top left of the board Western Land. They retain their role in the returning minigame Defuse or Lose in Mario Party 5 and appear in several others, including Tricky Turntable, Coin Corral, Jr.'s Jauntlet, Bowser Crashers, Bath Bob-ombs, Brick Breaker, and Coin Conveyor. Bob-ombs are featured in Koopa Paratroopa Taxi in the Paratroopa School Flight mode.

Bob-ombs are common items found in the Super Smash Bros. series. They can be picked up and thrown at other characters to create an explosion, thus inflicting great damage or also knocking them out instantly. However, if they stay on the ground long enough, Bob-ombs stand up and walk around the stage by themselves and eventually stop and remain in their current spot to explode afterward. If a Sudden Death takes too long to finish, Bob-ombs appear and fall on the stage. Occasionally, Party Balls drop multiple Bob-ombs onto the battlefield when they are opened.
In addition to being an item throughout the series, Bob-ombs have also made appearances as trophies and a spirit. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the player can obtain a Bob-omb trophy when it appears at random in single-player modes, such as Vs. Mode, Home-Run Contest or the Lottery. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Bob-omb appears as an Advanced-class support spirit that occupies one support slot. When used on a fighter, it equips them with a Bob-omb item at the start of a battle. The spirit's puppet fighters are three black Kirbys with increased movement speed, fought on the Mushroom Kingdom stage. Aside from the Spirit Board, the Bob-omb spirit can also be obtained from Sheldon's Place for 1,000 Spirit Points.

Bob-ombs return in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. They are found in Goomba Fortress, Bowser's Snow Fort, and Bowser Jr.'s Flotilla. At Goomba Fortress, after being awoken from a Goomba's trumpet, the Bob-ombs hop into cannons before being blasted off. Bob-ombs can become Parabombs upon landing safely, and later blow up gates after chasing Mario from either side of it for a few seconds, though if Mario touches the explosion, he takes a unit of damage.
Bob-ombs are similar as in the first two games, though either damaging it (including from a First Strike) lights its fuse, and the Bob-omb explodes if Mario touches them again. A Bob-omb sometimes drops a Bomb sticker after a battle. A stack of either two or three are used by Bowser Jr. to attack. The game adds the Shiny Bob-omb variety.

Bob-ombs return in Paper Mario: Color Splash as enemies present in Fort Cobalt, Redpepper Crater, and Black Bowser's Castle. On some occasions, their fuses are lit as soon as the battle starts, and even standard hammer attacks can damage Mario. The Fire Flower or Hurlhammer can be used to detonate them without damaging Mario, and the explosion also damages other enemies or immediately detonates other Bob-ombs. Projectile or shell attacks from most Enemy Cards can safely hit them, even if their fuses are lit. The Ice Flower can be used to put out their fuse, which forces them to spend their turn reigniting it. In Redpepper Crater, their fuses can be lit from fireballs thrown by Fire Bros. In Black Bowser's Castle, Bob-ombs are used to destroy crates and ignite Mega Bob-ombs in order to destroy the black paint factory in the castle.
An allied Bob-omb summoned with an Enemy Card will immediately use their explosion attack on the closest enemy, similar to the Bomb attack seen in previous games - this deals 25 damage but instantly destroys the Bob-omb as well, making it the only attack that sacrifices or damages the user, and making an allied Bob-omb's victory animation impossible to see.

Bob-ombs are obtainable between 1000 and 3300 units from the leader in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A Bob-omb with a fuse as its plug is depicted in the sponsor "Bob-omb Plugs." Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also includes Bob-ombs in the returning Bob-omb Blast mode, once again coloring them depending on which player or team uses them, and characters are not affected by explosions of the same color.
br | |||
====Mario Kart Tour====
Bob-ombs return again in Mario Kart Tour. Like in previous games, they can be thrown either forward or backward. In this game, drivers are not affected by their own Bob-omb's explosion if it detonates due to other drivers' actions, but do crash if they run directly into it after throwing it. The game also includes Double Bob-ombs, which are simply two Bob-ombs that are thrown at once. A giant Bob-omb variant called Giga Bob-omb is also introduced as the special skill of King Bob-omb and Shy Guy (Gold).
The following gliders increase the chance of getting Bob-ombs and points for hitting racers with one.

===Mario & Luigi series===
====Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions====
Bob-ombs are enemies in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. They are found in Beanbean Fields, sometimes with Paratroopeas and Tanoombas as well. On the field, a Bob-omb lights up and runs around upon spotting Mario or Luigi. They try to blow up their targets, possibly making Mario or Luigi dizzy, though it can be countered with the hammer. Bob-ombs are able to relight their fuses willingly. When defeated, they occasionally drop a Nut or a Red Pepper.
The Bob-omb | The game adds two variations: the Designbomb, a Bob-omb with a small propeller in flace of the fuse; and the Time Bob-omb, featured during the battle against some of the Koopalings in Bowser's Castle.
| |||
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Bob-ombs appear as enemies and allies in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser. They first appear in the level "The Hoohoo Melee Brigade". They are Melee troopers and attack by ramming into enemies. They can perform the special attack Kaboom Bash, which allows them to charge into an enemy and explode. They are weak against Broozers. A Bob-omb is also used in the Captain Command Pass the Bob-omb, where the opposing captains toss a lit Bob-omb back and forth before it explodes on one of them.
Bob-ombs | |||
====Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time==== | ====Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time====
Bob-ombs | Bob-ombs are found in Gritzy Desert and the Gritzy Caves in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. While attacking, a Bob-omb sometimes tries to relay approaching one bro before targeting the other. Upon taking at least 23 damage or being affected by either a Bro Flower or Mix Flower, a Bob-omb approaches their target either slowly or quickly, but can be countered with a jump, or a Hammer if the babies are present. A Bob-omb's explosion can result in dizziness, like before. The game also adds the Lethal Bob-omb as well as the large Shroob variety named Shroob-omb.
====Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey====
Bob-ombs return in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Bowser first discovers Bob-ombs in his castle. They appeared to be rounded up in a cage by Fawful and were abandoned. When Bowser frees the Bob-ombs, he gains a new attack called Bob-omb Blitz. Also, in Bowser's Castle, Bob-ombs are found inside of the Jailgoon suits aside from Goombas in others. Bob-ombs also make a second appearance when Mario and Luigi fight Junker. Bob-ombs are one of the enemies that may appear when Junker empties a Junker Can. Also, after turning thin again, Bowser starts literally burning fat, and the fire lights several bins filled with Bob-ombs, and the explosion blasts Bowser into the Tunnel. They are also present in the underground of Bowser's Castle and near the roof of Peach's Castle, being obstacles that the brothers and Bowser must pass by leaping over them. Bob-ombs also appear out of the rocks held by Pendrils when they are smashed with a hammer by Mario or Luigi. Also, during the Blizzard Midbus battle, one Bob-omb sticks out of the massive snowball he uses to attack. Bowser must punch this to avoid having the snowball rolled into him, as well as damaging Blizzard Midbus once done. When his health is halved, he occasionally covers it. Bob-ombs are also among the enemies used by Dark Bowser after being healed by Fawful; they must be deflected by punching them, causing them to explode and defeat any enemies within the blast radius.
Three new species of Bob-ombs are also introduced: Fawful Bob-ombs when fighting the Tower of Yikk in Blubble Lake as giant Bowser, Alarm Bob-omb fought in Fawful's castle, and Dark Fawful Bombs as rare enemies that are held by Dark Fawful Guys in Fawful's castle.
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Bob-ombs appear as enemies and recruitable allies in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode. They are weak against Broozers and Swoops. King Bob-omb also appears as a boss. Also, two of them are seen with two Fly Guys trying to stop Bowser Jr. and Kamek from reaching Larry and Lemmy.
====Mario & Luigi: Dream Team====
Several Bob-ombs appear in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team; some are seen in the mouth of Pelicrumps, with one or two Pelicrumps holding one Bob-omb at a time. If Mario does not defeat the Pelicrump with the Bob-omb inside, the Pelicrump drops the Bob-omb on Mario, causing him unavoidable damage. The Elite Trio can summon supersized Bob-ombs for a chase attack during their boss fight, dropping the Bob-omb onto their target should Private Goomp and/or his Goomba minions trip them, and getting blown up by the Bob-omb should their target escape. Several Mega Bob-ombs that are used to activate switches in the second area of Neo Bowser Castle; after Mario and Luigi defeat Antasma and work their way up the castle's central tower, the Elite Trio begin dropping lit Bob-ombs and Mega Bob-ombs to slow the brothers down. In the final battle, Dreamy Bowser can conjure Dream Stone powered versions of Bob-ombs, called Dreamy Bob-ombs, to attack. Additionally, Bowser Jr. can summon a Bob-omb to attack during his boss battle; it walks in a circle towards the Mario Bros. repeatedly, and explodes if jumped on. A related enemy called Lob-omb appears in Dreamy Dozing Sands, later succeeded by Lob-omb R in Dreamy Mount Pajamaja.
br | |||
====Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam====
While regular Bob-ombs do not appear as regular enemies in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, their paper versions do. However, regular Bob-ombs appear in the battle with King Bob-omb, where they charge into the player and explode if they are not countered properly and also appear in the Dry Bowser boss fight when he uses his inhaling attack. In the Lemmy, Iggy, and Morton battle, regular Bob-ombs also appear when Lemmy throws them in his attack. The Bob-omb thrown will aim for either Mario or Luigi, and when Lemmy gets hit with a Bob-omb in his hand, he will deal some more damage. However, he must be the last Koopaling standing for the attack to happen. Legless Bob-ombs also drop at the player in the mission Bye-Bye, Boo, and are used by Iggy, Wendy, and the player in Bombs Away, while Bowser uses Mega Bob-ombs. Papercraft versions of Bob-ombs also appear in the Papercraft Bowser Jr. boss fight. A plant-based type of Bob-omb, called Bomb Bud, appears as a useable object in Gloomy Woods.
====Mario & Luigi: Brothership====
Bob-ombs appear as enemies in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, first encountered in Skorcheen Island. Bob-ombs are never encountered roaming around in the field, either only being fought in scripted battles or when entering a battle with a different enemy. In battle, Bob-ombs count down every turn. Once their count reaches zero, they charge at a Bro. who must jump over it. The Bob-omb then returns and chases the same Bro. around in a circle. Just as the Bob-omb closes in on the Bro. and glows, the Bro. being chased must jump again, which causes the Bob-omb to explode near the other enemies in the battle. If the Bro. jumps too early, the Bob-omb stops and explodes when the Bro. lands, damaging both Bros.
Seven very strong Bob-ombs are fought in the side quest Monster Mania: Level 4, where they are level 100. As such the bros. are unlikely to defeat them before they attack, their attacks can easily 1-hit KO, and they attack a lot faster. Additionally, Boo Biscuits cannot be used in this fight. Using the Protectus and Notdroppin Battle Plugs can be used to survive hits, while the Seedle-ize and Kaboom Attack Battle Plugs can convert them into weaker Seedles and Golden Seedles.

====Mario vs. Donkey Kong====
| |||
Bob-ombs appear in Mario vs. Donkey Kong and its remake. In the original, they debut in levels in Mystic Forest, but the remake makes them appear as early as Merry Mini-Land. They appear out of small mortar-like objects, jumping away from Mario. When they notice him, they start flashing before eventually stopping and exploding. They can be picked up to destroy Bob-omb Blocks.
Pink-colored Bob-ombs appear during the Donkey Kong battles in Mystic Forest, Twilight City, and their respective Plus World variants. They are thrown by Donkey Kong as his means of attack and must be used against him. Like with the regular Bob-ombs, the pink Bob-ombs start flashing when they see Mario and will explode shortly after. Unlike regular Bob-ombs, the pink Bob-ombs will not stop moving even when they are about to explode. In the Level 5-DK+ battle, the pink Bob-ombs can destroy the blocks on the ground, opening up a Spike Trap.
In the Nintendo Switch remake, Bob-ombs gain a slight redesign, having a more mechanical and toy-like look. Donkey Kong also no longer throws pink Bob-ombs in their respective boss battles, like Level 7-DK and Level 8-DK, as they are changed to regular Bob-ombs instead.

Bob-ombs reappear in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. They only appear in the minigames, and if the player touches them, five points are deducted. They also appear in the staff credits. Bob-omb Fish, which are fish enemies resembling Bob-ombs, also appear as enemies when building with the Special Kit 3. When they detect Mini Donkey Kong, they float upside down above the water and explode after a while.

Bob-ombs are part of the Bob-omb minigame at Toad's tent in the Fun Fair in Mario Pinball Land. Bob-ombs can stun Porcupuffer temporarily during its battle, where they are launched from cannons behind hit trapdoors. Later, if Bowser is defeated without getting any Game Over, the player can launch Bob-ombs from the Sky Cannon in the Fun Fair for bonus points.

Bob-ombs appear in both games of the Mario Baseball series. In Mario Superstar Baseball, Bob-ombs appear only in the mini-games Bob-omb Derby, where the player must hit the Bob-ombs into the air for various points, and in Piranha Panic, the player can throw one at a Piranha Plant to earn three points. In Mario Super Sluggers, they are used as items on the outfields in the game. They also return in the mini-games Bob-omb Derby and Piranha Panic as well as the new ones, Ghost K and Bowser Pinball. Also, Wario's Star Swing involves him pulling out a Bob-omb and hitting it towards the field. In the fourth and final cinematic, Bob-ombs are used during a freestyle home run derby exhibition at Mario Stadium, where Mario and Donkey Kong hit them into the sky, and they explode into a display of fireworks.

The first appearance that Bob-ombs made in the Mario & Sonic series is the Nintendo DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. They only appear in two of the minigames: Conveyor Belt, as one of the enemies having to be sorted, and in Shoot!, where they are enemies that blow up and cost the player a life if hit.
The first time that Bob-ombs appear in Olympic events is in the Nintendo DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, in Snow Machine Fight. Here, Bob-ombs slowly walk around and explode a short amount of time after being hit by a snowball, damaging whoever gets caught within the explosion. In the Wii Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Bob-ombs appear in a Dream Event, Dream Rafting, where at various points, they will be dropped or come out of Barrels onto the raft. The characters can Ground Pound to knock the Bob-ombs off the raft, though will be knocked down or off the raft if they are hit by an explosion. The player can earn points for removing Bob-ombs, and occasionally, bonus points can be earned for removing all of the Bob-ombs from the raft.

Bob-ombs appear as enemies in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. They are Light attribute characters, and their skill increases the ATK of all Light attribute teammates by 2x, but it also lowers the player's HP to one.
When fought as enemies, Bob-ombs have very high defenses, which reduces any attribute damage that they take from a single attack to 1 HP. However, their HP is very low, and they take 4-6 turns to attack the player. But when they do attack, their attack is usually fatal.
The player can transform a Bob-omb into Bob-omb & Lakitu by using four Lakitu Coins on it.

In versus mode, their effect is to fully fill the skill meter of the player if the opponent uses their skill, where the chance of it happening is 4% at the first level and 20% at the maximum level. In this game, their eyes glow red, due to them getting hypnotized by Cursa. In battle, they can be thrown at other enemies after dashing into them, exploding on contact much like a Grenaduck or Barrel Bolt from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. They also explode on the spot if they are attacked normally. During their turn to attack, Bob-ombs move to the closest playable character and explode when near enough to them.

Their behavior when Link strikes them with his sword slightly differs between the two games. In Four Swords, they turn blue and freeze, which gives Link the opportunity to light their fuse. In The Minish Cap, their fuse is automatically lit by attacking it. In either case, the Bob-omb runs around with a burning fuse before exploding, but Link can attack them again to freeze them and use them.

===Super | ===Appearance===
{| class= | Bob-ombs resemble bombs with a few differences. The main difference is that they have white eyes, feet, and occasionally arms. Their standard appearance ranges in color between solid black and various off-black colors; most often dark gray or dark blue. Bob-ombs can also be uncommonly found in other colors such as red, brown, and green. In most games, they feature wind-up keys on their backs and fuses, though these are lacking in a few old games. The fuse is usually surrounded by a gray or blue plug. A possible precursor of a Bob-omb can be seen in the VSWC bomb.jpg in VS. Wrecking Crew. Curiously, in Super Mario Bros. 2 and during the Paper Mario ending parade, Bob-ombs are shown to have arms. In some games, Bob-ombs are seen to have yellow-orange feet and legs, but others in Super Mario Sunshine have feet resembling that of a wind-up toy. Upon closer observation, it can be seen that a Bob-omb's feet and legs are a segmented exterior of a potential endoskeleton.

===Allegiance and culture===
Bob-ombs are usually affiliated with the Koopa Troop, and it is assumed that they take orders from King Bob-omb, one of Bowser's high-ranking minions. However, whether King Bob-omb is the true king of all Bob-ombs is never explained. In recent years, the games have introduced peaceful Bob-omb communities that have no affiliation with Bowser whatsoever, and their homeland in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is known as Fahr Outpost, an isolated town located in a far-off icy land. The town is ruled by a Mayor, and all Bob-ombs take orders from him or General White. These Bob-ombs are generally peaceful but seem to dislike outsiders and prefer to keep to themselves. However, by the end of the game, they become more welcoming. The Fahr Outpost Bob-ombs' culture seems to resemble that of Russia, from the clothing right down to the accents.
Also, in more than a few instances, Bob-ombs were often depicted warring each other, with it often being split between Bob-omb Buddies and Black Bob-ombs.
===Roles=== | |||
Bob-ombs serve multiple roles in various games. In their most common appearances, they are enemies who explode upon being irritated, although they sometimes chase after Mario upon seeing him, exploding in a few seconds. Bob-ombs can also be used as weapons, particularly in the Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. series. Bob-ombs are also involved in several mini-games in the Mario Party series. In Paper Mario: The Origami King, it is implied that Bob-ombs "die" when they explode; but many Bob-ombs in the earlier games, including the partners Admiral Bobbery and Bombette, seem to regenerate after exploding.
The first time a Bob-omb is friendly is in Super Mario 64, when Pink Bob-ombs help Mario by opening cannons. They later appear as friendly (though some are also enemies) in the Paper Mario series.
Bob-ombs appear as items in several Super Mario sports titles. In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, they are Wario and Waluigi's signature item. When thrown, they stand still for a moment before exploding, throwing any nearby drivers into the air. If the radius is fading, it only causes a spinout. In Mushroom City and Mushroom Bridge, Bob-omb Cars can be seen, and if a player accidentally drives into one, it will explode like the Bob-ombs that Wario and Waluigi use as Special Items. In Mario Kart DS, Bob-ombs return similarly, as they did in Double Dash!!, but this time, it can be used by any character instead of being a special one. Curiously, in the remake version of Mushroom Bridge, Bob-omb Cars do not appear. The Bob-ombs also return in Mario Kart Wii as a regular item and an obstacle in Moonview Highway as a Bob-omb Car.
In Super Mario Strikers and its sequel, Mario Strikers Charged, Bob-ombs are items, and they do almost the same as they did in the Mario Kart series. Here, Bob-ombs can be obtained alone or in a set of three. Also, a giant form of a Bob-omb, called a Mega Bob-omb, sometimes appears, acting like a normal Bob-omb, but its explosion radius is roughly four times larger, plus it sends out a shockwave, harming anyone near it. In Mario Power Tennis, the Bob-ombs appear as an item in the minigame Chain-Chomp Challenge and are also part of the audience in the Wario Factory Court.

- —Bob-omb, Paper Mario: The Origami King
Bob-ombs (originally formatted as Bob-Ombs)[1] are living, moving mechanical bombs with eyes, feet, and windup keys on the back.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]
Bob-Ombs (unhyphenated as Bob Omb in the cast roll) are enemies in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2. In Japanese, this incarnation is known as「ボブ」(Bobu, Bob),[2][3][4] and have arms and no wind-up key, unlike later appearances.
Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
Bob-ombs appear again in Super Mario Bros. 3. Its instruction booklet strongly implies that the enemy was previously seen in an earlier game, presumably referring to Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic.[5] A Bob-omb can explode after being stomped;[6] it becomes idle for a few seconds before doing so, during which Mario or Luigi still have the opportunity to carry or kick them.
The keyless variety appears only in certain artillery levels of Dark Land, often shot from cannons (sometimes into each other), but one at the end of World 8-Ship is found walking. The cannons are sometimes positioned in such a way that the Bob-ombs are launched into each other. The keyless type lights up while moving before exploding, but stomping one can delay the explosion. They are colored purple in remakes, which also makes the standard variety blue.
Super Mario World[edit]
Bob-ombs return in Super Mario World, behaving similarly to the keyless type from Super Mario Bros. 3. They also receive a parachuting variety, Para-bombs. Mario or Luigi can stun a Bob-omb similarly as before, as well as with a cape, but the Bob-omb explodes a few seconds later. The player character can enter a Warp Pipe with a Bob-omb to prevent it from exploding for the remainder of the level.[citation needed] Forest of Illusion 3 first shows Bob-ombs in floating bubbles.[7][8] Yoshi can either swallow Bob-ombs instantly or stomp to defeat them instantly.
Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[edit]
Bob-ombs are common enemies in Super Mario 64 and its remake. When Mario is nearby, a Bob-omb lights up and chases after him, no longer by touching him, but only from its explosion, taking away two units of Mario's health and possibly defeating nearby enemies. A Bob-omb releases a coin when defeated.[9] A Bob-omb can be defeated directly either when kicked or by picking one up and throwing it. Bob-ombs are found primarily at Bob-omb Battlefield, where a few operate cannons, and do not go after Mario. The game adds a few varieties, including the friendly Bob-omb Buddies and the enemy Chuckyas, as well as the boss Big Bob-omb.
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
Bob-ombs,[10] also called Bomb-ombs[11] (or Bomb-Ombs[12]) and Neji Bombs,[13] appear in Super Mario Sunshine, now with a screen that counts down from three before exploding at zero and feet resembling a wind-up toy. The Bob-omb can be sprayed with FLUDD to become blue and then thrown at the Monty Mole to attack,[14] with three hits being required to defeat Monty Mole. Bob-ombs can appear in "King Boo Down Below" of Sirena Beach as a result of King Boo spinning the slots to the enemy pictures.
New Super Mario Bros.[edit]
Bob-ombs return in New Super Mario Bros., working similarly as in Super Mario Bros. 3. They are found in Worlds 4-5 and 7-5, as well as during the battle with Monty Tank in World 6-Castle. A Bob-omb stops moving from either a stomp or a fireball from Fire Mario before exploding. They can sometimes destroy blocks, which can be necessary to obtain Star Coins. The game adds the Kab-omb variety, found only in World 8-8.
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Bob-ombs emerge from Bob-omb dispensers in Super Mario Galaxy. Some of them have legs and can move around, but most are motionless. The first type behaves like in Super Mario 64, chasing Mario briefly before exploding. Spinning the walking Bob-ombs is now required before they can be picked up, though not the motionless type, but they light up and flash upon being picked up. Bob-ombs can destroy cages[15] as well as Chomps. Bob-ombs are featured in the Bob-omb Blasting at Battlerock Galaxy as well as Dreadnought Galaxy, where Mario gets rid of trash piles on behalf of a Gearmo within thirty seconds for a Power Star.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]
Bob-ombs are enemies New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are similar to their appearance in New Super Mario Bros. Bob-ombs are first found in World 3-Castle; they sometimes spawn from Warp Pipes endlessly, and the platforms of World 8-
Tower sometimes become Bob-ombs as a result of Magikoopa's magic. Bob-ombs can be stunned from a stomp as usual.[16] A Bob-omb can explode instantly from lava or a burner. Up to five coins can be obtained from a Bob-omb by hitting it with fireballs, with one coin per hit. Bob-ombs can be frozen from Ice Balls.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Bob-ombs return in Super Mario Galaxy 2, being mostly the same as in Super Mario Galaxy, though none are motionless and usually appear away from Bob-omb dispensers. Bob-omb Buddies return as allies in Throwback Galaxy.

Super Mario 3D Land[edit]
Bob-ombs are enemies in Super Mario 3D Land. They behave like in Super Mario 64, though fireballs can stun them like in the 2D side-scrolling titles. Rocky Wrenches sometimes throw Bob-ombs and not wrenches. The game adds the Tail Bob-omb variety.
New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]
Bob-ombs return in New Super Mario Bros. 2, working the same as in New Super Mario Bros., and Para-bombs also appear in various levels.
New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
Bob-ombs are enemies in New Super Mario Bros. U and its port, along with Parabombs. Bowser Jr. throws Bob-ombs to attack during the second and final fights.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Bob-ombs are enemies in Super Mario 3D World and its port. They are found in Bob-ombs Below, Super Block Land, and Bowser's Bob-omb Brigade. They work like they do in Super Mario 3D Land, though can be spawned from Baddie Boxes as well as. Lake Lapcat features cat variations of them.
Super Mario Maker subseries[edit]
Bob-ombs appear in Super Mario Maker, its port, and Super Mario Maker 2. Bob-ombs are in every style, with uniquely designed sprites for the Super Mario Bros. style as well as more detailed sprites in Super Mario World. They function like in the side-scrolling games, and Bob-ombs destroy Hard Blocks, Ice Blocks, ? Blocks, and Brick Blocks upon exploding, which also causes nearby coins to fall. Bob-ombs can be lit up by either Yoshi, fire-related objects, being shook or crushed, or other Bob-ombs. It is possible to enlarge Bob-ombs or apply wings to them, as well as a parchute in Super Mario Maker 2 to become Parabombs. With Super Mario Maker 2 not having a shake function, lit Bob-ombs are added by holding a regular version and tapping the lit variant. Like many enemies and items, Bob-ombs can be given a parachute to become Parabombs
Super Mario Run[edit]
In Super Mario Run, Bowser throws Bob-ombs at Mario during his battle in Bowser's Bob-ombing Run. When Mario stomps on, finishes Vaulting over, or does a Vaulting Jump on a Bob-omb, it flies forward in an shallow arc. This usually causes it to leave the screen unless it collides with and explodes against certain objects in the way. When Mario hits Bowser with three Bob-ombs, he is defeated. They also appear in Airship Plunder, where they can be kicked to destroy crates. While walking, Bob-ombs explode upon contact with a Spike Ball or a Fire Bar, and can be defeated by attacking them with a landing roll or a rolling jump. Bob-ombs do not turn around when they hit walls. Bob-ombs cannot be leveled up.
A Bob-omb Statue can be obtained as a building in Kingdom Builder mode, and placed in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]
Bob-ombs are found only at Fluff-Puff Peaks Flying Battleship in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, being launched from cannons and spawned from a Mecha Maker. They are more stilted and mechanical while walking, and their wind-up keys are animated. The game also adds a firecracker-like variation named Babooms.
DIC cartoons[edit]
Bob-ombs make occasional appearances in the DIC cartoons. In all of them, they resemble their design in Super Mario Bros. 2, but with white limbs and red eyes.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]
- “Hey, Bob-Omb! Did anyone tell you were uuuuu-gly? I've seen better-lookin' bombs after they exploded! I bet you have to sneak up on a match just to get a light!”
- —Toad, "Toad Warriors"
Bob-Ombs are often thrown by the antagonists of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, including Albatosses, Mouser (like in "Stars in Their Eyes"), King Koopa (like in "The Unzappables" and "Flatbush Koopa"), and State Troopas in "Toad Warriors." A wooden Bob-Omb decoy is also made by Mario in "Escape from Koopatraz" as a way to free Princess Toadstool by deceiving the prison guard, but Mario later throws the decoy away as it erodes.
The show has unique variations: the Black Pit Bob-Omb in "Rolling Down the River," where it creates a large black pit to try and stop the Ding Bell; the Bomb Net in "Two Plumbers and a Baby," which turns into nets instead of exploding; and Bomb Plants, which are in several episodes.

The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
- “Oh, yeah? Watch!”
- —Bob-omb, "7 Continents for 7 Koopas"
Bob-ombs are in some episodes in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. Several of them are used by King Koopa to attack Mario and Princess Toadstool in "Never Koop a Koopa." King Koopa uses one again in "Reign Storm" to destroy a dam worked on by Mario and Luigi. Several are launched from the Doom Ship in "Mush-Rumors" to attack a real-world family. King Koopa uses a Bob-omb at Mertropolis in "The Ugly Meramid," briefly flooding it. A Bob-omb capable of speech appears in "7 Continents for 7 Koopas," guarding Princess Toadstool, but it was tricked into setting off its fuse before being thrown into the Koopa Clogger, destroying the forcefield it made. Bob-ombs are used as ammunition in "Recycled Koopa" by King Koopa after the protagonists take Hip's magic wand, and the several Koopa Zombies, when they attack New York City.
Super Mario World television series[edit]
- “How do you feel about Bob-ombs? Bob-ombs!”
- —Wizenheimer, "Ghosts 'R' Us"
Bob-ombs are in a few episodes of Super Mario World television series. In "Born to Ride," Yoshi throws a Bob-omb, after the Dino Riders forced him to. Wizenheimer threatens the protagonists with a Bob-omb in "Ghosts 'R' Us" if they do not enter the Warp Pipe to dungeon. Oogtar discovers Koopa's "presents" to the Koopalings of Bob-ombs that explode upon opening the box in "The Night Before Cave Christmas."
Yoshi[edit]
Bob-ombs are game pieces in Yoshi. They are depicted after Para-bombs from Super Mario World. Bob-ombs start appearing in the A-type mode after hatching 50-59 eggs in the Family Computer/NES release or 60-69 in the Game Boy release. A Bob-omb also appear in a Yoshi's place if he does not appear in a bonus game.
Super Mario Bros. film[edit]
In the live-action 1993 Super Mario Bros. film, a Bob-omb appears after Mario and Luigi escape the de-evolution chamber. As they are fleeing from Koopa's Goombas, Luigi notices that a fungus growth appears to be offering them the explosive, but Mario drags him away before he can accept it. Later, after they leave the Boom Boom Bar, the fungus again offers them the Bob-omb. This time, Luigi manages to grab it before he and Mario escape.
Later, near the end of the film, while facing Koopa on the catwalk, Mario pulls out the Bob-omb, which causes mass amounts of panic amongst the city's inhabitants. Realizing the power the object possesses, he winds up the key and places it on the ground, but before it can get to Koopa, it falls through a crack in the ground. However, unbeknownst to both of them, the Bob-omb continues its journey after it falls. It walks through the lower section of the city (scaring off the inhabitants there), up a wall, and along the underside of the catwalk. As Mario and Luigi are blasting Koopa with Devolution Guns, the Bob-omb finally reaches Koopa and explodes right underneath him.
The appearance of the Bob-omb is similar to that in the games, though there are some differences. For instance, the wind-up key appears on the side rather than on its back, its eyes are smaller and more circular than their in-game appearances, and its feet have three toes on it. Additionally, the Bob-omb walks like a wind-up toy, and before the Bob-omb explodes from underneath Koopa, the Reebok brand name as well as the Union Jack (often used on their brand name products) can be seen on the underside of the feet.
Early concept artwork showed that the Bob-omb was going to have black arms and legs, white gloves, and white sneakers, while also having pupils on its eyes and a mouth.[17] The manga adaptation of the film, titled Super Mario: Makai Teikoku no Megami, replaces the Bob-omb with exploding mushrooms.
Mario's FUNdamentals[edit]
Bob-ombs are a suit of playing cards in Go Fish in Mario's FUNdamentals.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[edit]
Mario Net Quest[edit]
In Mario Net Quest, a Bob-omb with a lit fuse serves as the countdown timer. When it explodes, the game ends.
Yoshi's Story[edit]
Bob-bombs are launched by cannons on the Shy Guy Galleon during the stage Shy Guy's Ship in Yoshi's Story. They have yellow eyes instead of the usual white. Bob-bombs are defeated instantly if stomped. Bob-bombs are also used by Baby Bowser to attack Yoshi during his boss fight. A Bob-bomb can be licked up by Yoshi and spat out to Baby Bowser to inflict damage or at the ceiling so that large spikes hit Baby Bowser.
Mario Party series[edit]
Bob-ombs are featured throughout the Mario Party games, mostly being featured in minigames.
Mario Party[edit]
The Wario's Battle Canyon board in Mario Party features Bob-ombs and Bob-omb Buddies fighting, but stop fighting by the end. Both types of Bob-ombs are willing to launch players from their cannons if paid ten coins. Bob-ombs are in the minigames Hot Bob-omb, tossing a Bob-omb to one another until it explodes, eliminating one of them, and as the ball in Bombsketball.
Mario Party 2[edit]
Bob-ombs are part of Mystery Land in Mario Party 2, and a Bob-omb UFO there can transport the player if paid ten coins. Bob-omb return in the minigame Hot Bob-omb, in addition to appearing as a species to count in Roll Call and as one of the racers at Day at the Races.
Mario Party 3[edit]

Bob-omb is Wario's default partner in Mario Party 3, with a health and attack rating of one each and a salary of three coins. If the Bob-omb harms an opponent, the player loses the Bob-omb. Bob-ombs can sometimes appear in Crowd Cover, meaning there is a picture of them underneath.
Mario Party 4[edit]
Mario Party 4 features a Bob-omb as a host for Battle Minigames, and Bob-ombs also appear in some minigames: Reverse-a-Bomb, where players try to direct Bob-ombs to harm their teammates; Bob-omb X-ing, where the player dodges Bob-ombs for as long as they can; and Bob-omb Breakers, where players can surround them with blocks for points. A Bob-omb is also the host for Battle Minigames, appearing whenever someone lands on a Battle Space.
Mario Party 5[edit]
Bob-omb is part of the Bob-omb Capsule in Mario Party 5, exploding if its space is approached three times and subtracting twenty coins from the affected player's total. Bob-ombs are spectators in the minigame Defuse or Lose, and have a direct role in Dodge Bomb, where players try to dodge them. Bob-omb Cannon and Bob-omb Wall are both vehicle parts in Super Duel Mode.
Mario Party 6[edit]
Bob-omb returns as part of the Bob-omb Orb in Mario Party 6, except it halves the number of spaces that the affected player is yet to travel. Bob-ombs are in some minigames: Odd Card Out, as a possible card; Treasure Trawlers, exploding and stunning the player with them temporarily; Money Belt, where opening a box with one incapacitates the player briefly; and sometimes Shoot Yer Mouth Off, as one of the solo player's commands.
Mario Party Advance[edit]
- “Hey, now! Don't give me that sad little face!”
- —Bob-omb, Mario Party Advance
Mario Party 7[edit]
Mario Party 8[edit]
Bob-ombs are in a few minigames of Mario Party 8: Cardiators, appearing from one of the cards and exploding to inflict five damage to the opponent; Bob-ombs Away, where the solo player avoids Bob-ombs thrown by team players; and Moped Mayhem, where one is a racer.
Mario Party DS[edit]
Besides the returning Bob-omb Breakers, Bob-ombs are also in the minigame Goomba Wrangler in Mario Party DS, where circling one causes a player to lose Goombas from their total.
Mario Party 9[edit]
A Bob-omb sometimes falls on to the vehicle at Bob-omb Factory in Mario Party 9, exploding after ten spaces and reducing the captain's total number of Mini Stars by half. Bob-ombs are in some minigames: Bomb Barge, where players dodge Bob-ombs falling on their raft constantly; Bombard King Bob-omb, where players attack King Bob-omb with them; and Logger Heads, incapaciating a player if they hit one.
Mario Party: Island Tour[edit]
Bob-ombs are featured in the minigame Bob-omb Aplomb in Mario Party: Island Tour, where players kick Bob-ombs away before they can explode. Bob-ombs would have been tiles in Match Faker, as shown in a pre-release screenshot , but they are featured in Tap Dash.
Mario Party 10[edit]
Bob-ombs are non-playable characters in Mario Party 10. They appear in a few minigames: Bob-omb Combo, players throw Bob-ombs at several other Bob-ombs, trying to explode more than their opponents; Bob-omb Bogey, as obstacles that take away fifty points; Fruit Cahoots, also as obstacles; and in Meanie Match, as a selectable enemy.
Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]
Bob-ombs return in Mario Party: Star Rush. They are part of more minigames: Goomba Gold Rush, sometimes leading Goombas and exploding if hit, damaging Goombas nearby; Tiles and Tribulations, where matching three Bob-omb tiles results in an explosion that destroys other tiles nearby; Splat-a-Stamp, as a possible design; and Pop Quiz, alongside other enemies.
Mario Party: The Top 100[edit]
Bob-ombs retain their role in various returning minigames in Mario Party: The Top 100, including Roll Call (this time as the only possible species), Revers-a-Bomb, Defuse or Lose, Triple Jump, and Logger Heads. Bob-ombs are also in The Final Battle!, though were not in the original Mario Party 4 version, and cameo in Jigsaw Jumble and sometimes Flash Forward (with the Roll Call background).
Super Mario Party[edit]
Bob-ombs are non-playable characters at King Bob-omb's Powderkeg Mine in Super Mario Party. If a player passes a Bob-omb, it joins them for three turns, regardless of how many allies the player has, rolling a Dice Block that may subtract one space from their roll. Certain Event Spaces feature a Bob-omb that allows a player to ride a minecart to the opposite side. Bob-ombs are in several minigames: Absent Minded, Rattle and Hmmm, and Lit Potato (the latter retaining their role from Hot Bob-omb).
Mario Party Superstars[edit]
Bob-ombs appear in some returning minigames in Mario Party Superstars, including Roll Call, Revers-a-Bomb, X-Ray Payday, and Flash Forward with the Roll Call background.
Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit]
Game & Watch Gallery series[edit]
Bob-ombs have made a decent number of appearances in the Game & Watch Gallery series. The way they operate, however, differs between titles.
A Bob-omb may appear from an egg in the Modern Fire of Game & Watch Gallery, causing a miss if it explodes within the carriage, followed by the Mario Bros. and the patients fleeing.
A Bob-omb can be launched from the cannon in the Modern Parachute of Game & Watch Gallery 2, causing a miss if Mario gets one, exploding and sending him into the water. They cause an instant Game Over in the Modern version of Ball.
Yoshi gets a Miss from eating a Bob-omb in the Modern Egg in Game & Watch Gallery 3.
Bob-ombs return in the Modern Fire, retaining their role, and also try to destroy a statue of Wario in the Modern Fire Attack in Game & Watch Gallery 4.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
- SmashWiki article: Bob-omb

Paper Mario series[edit]
Paper Mario[edit]
Bob-ombs are allies in Paper Mario. One of Mario's partners is a pink Bob-omb named Bombette, and she was among the Bob-omb rebels whom Mario freed from prison. Some Bob-ombs in Koopa Village are stated to have been kidnapped and enslaved by the Koopa Bros. Four Bob-ombs are later on the Koopa Brothers' float during the parade, exploding before showing one of their hands.
Bob-ombs are also enemies at Koopa Bros. Fortress. They attack by either ramming Mario or by lighting themselves before approaching Mario to explode and fall, harming Mario while defeating them.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Bob-ombs return as non-playable characters in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its remake. They are the main inhabitants of Fahr Outpost, and some of them are sailors at Rogueport. Mario receives anoter Bob-omb partner, Admiral Bobbery. The Big Bob cannon requires Bob-ombs to operate, which is how Mario goes to the moon.
Bob-ombs are also enemies, working identically as in Paper Mario. They are fought in the Pit of 100 Trials, and are part of The Bob-omb Squad (led by Master Crash) at Glitzville. The game adds the stronger enemy variations Bulky Bob-omb and Bob-ulk.
Super Paper Mario[edit]
The only Bob-ombs in Super Paper Mario are Bombette and Bobbery as Catch Cards as well as photographs at Mario's house in the intro.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]
Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]
Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]
- Main article: Bob-omb (Paper Mario: The Origami King)
- “This is what every Bob-omb hopes for—a chance to change something for the better. To make an impact.”
- —Bob-omb, Paper Mario: The Origami King
A Bob-omb, nicknamed Bobby by Olivia, appears in Paper Mario: The Origami King as a partner. Lots of other Bob-ombs appear later in the game where they board Bowser's airship and are used as the main cannon's ammunition. They are one of the only few enemies not to have an origami version, though concept art shows they were planned to appear as Folded Soldiers. A Paper Macho version appears in Hotfoot Crater known as Paper Macho Bob-omb, which parachute down like Parabombs.
Mario Golf series[edit]
Mario Golf (Nintendo 64)[edit]
"Bob-omb" is a name sometimes displayed on the scoreboard in Mario Golf.
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour[edit]
A Bob-omb is first seen in the opening of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, with Bowser preparing to attack Wario and Waluigi with it from getting a black eye, but all three are caught in an explosion upon being hit by one of Mario's golf balls. Large Bob-ombs are also in Bowser Badlands, partly buried and exploding upon being hit by a golf ball, launching it elsewhere.
Mario Golf: World Tour[edit]
Bob-ombs are obstacles and tee markers at the Bowser's Castle course in Mario Golf: World Tour. They are also item shots that allow the golf ball to be hit at full power in rough terrain. The Double Bogey animation of Kamek shows Bob-ombs exploding after he summons them by mistake.
Mario Golf: Super Rush[edit]
Bob-ombs have a few roles in Mario Golf: Super Rush. A group of them carry King Bob-omb for his Special Dash, or Parabombs during his Special Shot. Bob-ombs are obstacles at Bowser Highlands, stunning players and taking away coins if crashed into, but Bob-ombs can be launched by a player's club. Golf Adventure features Bob-ombs defeating the Mr. Blizzards at Bowser Highlands as well as disabling the Snow King's crystal-powered shield. Bob-ombs are also obstacles during the Bob-omb Rush event of Battle Golf, taking away coins.
Mario Kart series[edit]

Mario Kart: Super Circuit[edit]
A Bob-omb is first seen in Mario Kart: Super Circuit at the award ceremony. An eliminated player in Battle Mode can also become a Bob-omb, replacing the Mini Bomb Karts in Mario Kart 64, and explode upon contact with another player.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![edit]
Bob-ombs are the special item for Wario and Waluigi in Mario Kart: Double Dash. The mode "Bob-omb Blast" features only Bob-ombs in Item Boxes, with players being able to hold up to ten, five for each racer. Either way, a Bob-omb explodes shortly after being thrown, whether forward or backward. The Bob-ombs of "Bob-omb Blast" are colored red, blue, green, and yellow for players 1 through 4, respectively. A Bob-omb also has red legs if held by the driver, but become yellow if held by the other character.
Bob-ombs are featured in the form of Bob-omb Cars in Mushroom Bridge and Mushroom City.vBob-omb Cars
Mario Kart DS[edit]
Bob-ombs are items in Mario Kart DS. They work like they do in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, except any player between 2nd and 5th place could get them.
Mario Kart Wii[edit]
Bob-ombs can be obtained between 2nd and 6th place in Mario Kart Wii, most likely 3rd and 4th place, at a 7.5 percent chance. Only up to three Bob-ombs can be active at once. The explosions of Bob-ombs in Team Race or Battle Mode are either red or blue, depending on the team. Bob-omb Cars return on Moonview Highway.
Mario Kart 7[edit]
Bob-ombs in Mario Kart 7 can be obtained by players in either 3rd, 4th, or 5th, but they are otherwise the same as in previous games.
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
Bob-ombs are obtainable between 1000 and 3300 units from the leader in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A Bob-omb with a fuse as its plug is depicted in the sponsor "Bob-omb Plugs." Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also includes Bob-ombs in the returning Bob-omb Blast mode, once again coloring them depending on which player or team uses them, and characters are not affected by explosions of the same color.
Mario Kart Tour[edit]

Mario & Luigi series[edit]
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]
The game adds two variations: the Designbomb, a Bob-omb with a small propeller in flace of the fuse; and the Time Bob-omb, featured during the battle against some of the Koopalings in Bowser's Castle.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[edit]
Bob-ombs are found in Gritzy Desert and the Gritzy Caves in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[edit]
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]
Mario & Luigi: Brothership[edit]
Mario vs. Donkey Kong series[edit]
Mario vs. Donkey Kong[edit]
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis[edit]
Mario Pinball Land[edit]
Bob-ombs are part of the Bob-omb minigame at Toad's tent in the Fun Fair in Mario Pinball Land. Bob-ombs can stun Porcupuffer temporarily during its battle, where they are launched from cannons behind hit trapdoors. Later, if Bowser is defeated without getting any Game Over, the player can launch Bob-ombs from the Sky Cannon in the Fun Fair for bonus points.
Mario Baseball series[edit]
Super Princess Peach[edit]
Bob-ombs return in Super Princess Peach, behaving like before. Bob-ombs light up and explode if either Princess Peach jumps on one or grabs it with Perry, the latter method being required to defeat Bowser in his giant form. Bob-ombs have varieties influenced by the Vibe Scepter, including Glad Bob-omb and Glad Parabomb.
Mario & Sonic series[edit]
Mario Sports Mix[edit]
Bob-ombs are items used from the ? Panel in Mario Sports Mix. They are featured in the minigame Bob-omb Dodge, where players try to dodge their explosions.
Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[edit]
Mario Sports Superstars[edit]
Bob-ombs are featured in the Road to Superstar mode in Mario Sports Superstars.
Dr. Mario World[edit]
Bob-ombs appear in Dr. Mario World as assistants. In stage mode, their effect is to increase the player's score by a fixed amount after completing the stage, where it is 400 points at the first level and 2000 points at the maximum level. In versus mode, their effect is to fully fill the skill meter of the player if the opponent uses their skill, where the chance of it happening is 4% at the first level and 20% at the maximum level. In World 6, the player is rewarded with this assistant by clearing the first area.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope[edit]
- “I got a great deal on this package, now I know why! This place is crawling with Bob-ombs
I'm more stressed than I when I left! Would you get rid of at least three of them? I could really use the R&R.”
- —Rabbid, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Bob-ombs appear in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope as enemies. They are common in Beacon Beach and Pristine Peaks, and rarely appear in all other planets.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]
Bob-ombs appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie as a part of Bowser's army. Additionally, King Bob-omb himself makes an appearance during the wedding between Bowser and Peach, with Peach blowing him up later on. Another Bob-omb appears at the wedding, where it is seen looking over at King Bob-omb, clearly ecstatic by his presence.
Unused appearances[edit]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[edit]
A Bob-omb-like Yoshi transformation[18] was supposed to appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island before being removed from the game.
Other appearances[edit]
The Legend of Zelda series[edit]
- ZeldaWiki article: Bob-omb
Bob-ombs appear in various The Legend of Zelda series titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, where they are known as Bomb Soldiers,[19] and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, where they go under their usual name.
Enemies with a similar appearance and behavior, Bombites, appear in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
LEGO City Undercover[edit]
A Bob-omb can be built in the Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions of LEGO City Undercover in order to unlock Chan Chuang as a playable character.
Minecraft[edit]
In the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack in Minecraft, Bob-ombs appear on a painting of Bob-omb Battlefield.
General information[edit]
Appearance[edit]
Bob-ombs resemble bombs with a few differences. A possible precursor of a Bob-omb can be seen in the artwork for a bomb in VS.
Color variations[edit]
Bob-ombs can have several different colors. The following is a list of all known Bob-omb colors and their first appearances.

Allegiance and culture[edit]
Roles[edit]
Profiles and statistics[edit]
- Main article: List of Bob-omb profiles and statistics
Nearly every Bob-omb bio touches upon their signature behavior of exploding, though some bios also make allusions to their fuses and wind-up keys.
