Pipegunk is a boss who appears in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. It is a glob of toxic goo who is unleashed by Shun to prevent Mario and Luigi from stopping the Zok Troops' plans to take over Concordia with Glohm. Its name is compounded from "pipe" and "gunk".

Battle[edit]

At the start of the battle, Pipegunk attacks by charging into one of the Mario Bros., which the targeted Bro. must counter its attack with a hammer. Pipegunk can also fire poison balls at the Bros., so the targeted Bro. must jump on one to pop it. Pipegunk will also transform into a poison ball, which the Bros. must counterattack with a jump.

When its HP gets dropped in a quarter, Shun will use the remote control to rotate the stage into the Magma Area, an action that changes Pipegunk's toxic body into lava. In this form, Pipegunk can summon a heat wave that restores a little HP and shoot balls of fiery energy at the Bros. However, if the Bros. dodge the energy balls, the latter will create a molten puddle that will hurt the former, so Mario and Luigi must jump to avoid taking damage. Pipegunk can also shoot fireballs at the Bros., which Mario and Luigi must avoid by jumping over them or knocking them back at it. Luigi can eventually use Luigi Logic to defeat Shun by moving him to the edge of the stage and steal the remote away from him. Luigi can rotate the stage at any direction; however, if Luigi rotates the stage to the Ice Area when Pipegunk is in its fiery form, an icy wind will damage it by 300 HP and revert it back to normal.

Eventually, Pipegunk's toxic body will be frozen all over by chilled air. In this form, Pipegunk can cover the screen in frost that obscures it, requiring the Bros. to counterattack it in careful timing. An icy wind can also restore a bit of its HP. Likewise, Pipegunk can shoot icicles at the Bros., which Mario and Luigi must jump over or knocking back at it to avoid taking damage. Like before, Luigi can use Luigi Logic later on to defeat Shun my moving him to the edge of the stage and steal the remote away from him. If Luigi rotates the stage to the Magma Area when Pipegunk is in its icy form, a heat wave will damage it and revert it back to normal. Defeating Pipegunk rewards the Pipegunk Boots for the Bros. and some Sprite Bulbs for Snoutlet.

Eventually, a stronger and Glohmy form of Pipegunk, Glohm Pipegunk, can be fought.
