Variant of Cheep Cheep

Air Cheeps are a type of Cheep Cheep that have been influenced by the Dark Star that appear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. They are round, purple Cheep Cheeps with a black star marking on their face and a cork on the top of their head to keep the air inside.

History[edit]

Air Cheep, after being deflated in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. An overinflated Air Cheep in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Air Cheeps are found only in the Airway of Bowser's body. As such, they are only fought by Mario and Luigi.

In battle, they have two methods of attacking; in their first attack, they will float to the top screen above a bro similar to a Nooz, attempting to crush them as they descend towards them. However, they may release air from their mouths, making them fly up and delaying the attack by a few seconds. This attack is countered with the hammer, and can make Mario and Luigi dizzy when it hits them.

In their second attack, the Air Cheep puffs up to a tremendous size. It will then attempt to run over one of the bros. This attack can be countered with the hammer. If one manages to hit the cork on the Air Cheep's head, the cork will fall off and the Air Cheep will fly around like a balloon and deflate. In this state, it cannot attack, and its defense is lowered. It is also possible to attack deflated Air Cheeps with a hammer. After a few turns, the Air Cheep will get another cork and re-inflate itself. This attack can notably allow Mario or Luigi (at common levels) to defeat the Air Cheep without attacking it, on the first turn of battle. This is done by not hitting the cork and repeatedly counterattacking.
