The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe European Championship 2023 continued with an on-site tournament between the 24 players who qualified in the online rounds. This tournament was part of the Nintendo European Championships 2023 event set at the VILCO convention center in Bad Vilbel, Germany. All rounds of the tournament were held in close succession on October 8, 2023, the second day of the event, starting from 14:00 UTC+1.[6] The entire event, including the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe finals, was hosted by Nimmer "Nimmz" Riaz and commented by Bowie Alexander and CharlieAstronaut.[7][8] It was also streamed live on Nintendo of Europe's YouTube channels.

Thomas, a competitor from France, won the grand final and went on to compete at the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024, where they represented Europe.[9]

Structure[edit]

The tournament featured two semi-finals and a grand final, each with 12 races set on preselected courses. The 24 competitors of this tournament were split into groups of 12, each group competing in one of the semi-final rounds. The 6 best ranking players by the end of a semi-final advanced to the grand final.

The following rules, shown in the live stream prior to the start of the first semi-final round, applied to all of the tournament's rounds:[10]

  • Mode: 150cc VS Race
  • Teams: No Teams
  • Items: Normal Items
  • CPU: No CPU
  • Mii Characters: Allowed
  • Courses: Preselected

In addition, as stated in the live stream by event host Nimmz, Smart Steering was not allowed.

Courses[edit]

The two semi-finals had the same succession of courses, a decision made to ensure fairness to the players.[11] All of the city courses originally from Mario Kart Tour that were featured in this tournament were based on European cities, a fact that the commentators remarked upon.[12][13]

The following are the courses selected for this tournament. They are listed here in the order they were played.
