First appearance | Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (1996) |
Latest appearance | Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) (2023) |
The Lazy Shell is both a weapon for Mario and a general armor item in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It is the empty shell of a Big Troopa with its wings still intact. Both the weapon and armor versions are found in the sky above Rose Town and reached by climbing a beanstalk that appears once the seed and fertilizer are given to the gardener. Both are unique, and as such cannot be replaced if sold.
The weapon variation acts essentially as a variation of the Paratroopa Shell, and thus a Timed Hit can be performed by pressing the button as Mario kicks the shell forward after he kicks it upwards. The Lazy Shell has an attack power of 90 points with an extremely wide random variation of up to 40 points above and below. As such, it can be as weak as 50 points or as strong as 130 points, making it unpredictable but having the highest possible attack power of any weapon in the game. It can be sold for 90 coins.
The armor variation is one of the only armor types that can be worn by any party member, along with the Work Pants and the Super Suit. It has extremely high defense, boosting both physical and magical defense by 127 points. Additionally, it prevents negative status effects and guards completely against element-based attacks. However, it negatively impacts both physical and magical attack power as well as speed, lowering each by 50 points. It can be sold for 111 coins.
