The Royal Parrot[1] is the somewhat irritable and elephant-sized pet macaw of Prince Hugo; he is featured in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas." Unlike regular macaws and most birds, he has three toes on each foot instead of the usual four.

History[edit]

The Royal Parrot is present during a meeting between Mario, Luigi, Toad, Prince Hugo, and Princess Toadstool, where his snarky comments anger Mario and cause him to run off with Luigi, planning on defeating the giant-sized Bully, Cheatsy, Big Mouth, and Kooky von Koopa. However, Mario and Luigi are preoccupied by the Angry Sun and unable to fight the Koopalings, who manage to reach Prince Hugo's castle.

Bursting into the castle, the Koopalings proceede to capture Princess Toadstool, Toad, and Prince Hugo while the Royal Parrot watches. Even when Mario and Luigi, with raccoon powers, appears, they are no match for the Koopalings, who easily defeat them.

Big Mouth Koopa, after defeating Mario and capturing Luigi, proceeds to open the cage of the Royal Parrot and, roughly grabbing the protesting bird, throws him aside and places Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad in the large cage.

Before he can be grabbed by Bully, Mario, seeing the Royal Parrot, leaps on his back and commands him to fly away. The bird is at first hesitant to leave his prized cage, but is convinced to leave by Mario, who promises the parrot that he will get his cage back.

Later on, the Royal Parrot and Mario have broken into Kastle Koopa and enact a plan to rescue King Koopa's captives and defeat him and his children; the parrot does not actually do anything in this plan, only watching the battle between Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad and King Koopa, Cheatsy, Kooky, Bully, and Big Mouth.

After the battle, the parrot comes out of hiding and, upon seeing his wrecked cage, which Mario inadvertently destroyed when he released Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool from it, becomes enraged. Grabbing one of Bowser's magic wands from Princess Toadstool, the parrot makes himself larger and more powerful and begins to chase Mario, demanding he repair his cage.
