Bowser's Ally Buff significantly reducing damage to Mallow from Axem Black
“Each member of your active party gives a different kind of Ally Buff. The level of the buff changes based on the Chain count. At 2 there's a small stat boost, at 3-4 there's a regular stat boost, and at 5+ there's a big stat boost. There are no buffs until the Chain reaches 2.”
Help description, Super Mario RPG

Ally Buffs are a mechanic in Super Mario RPG for the Nintendo Switch. They are provided when a Chain is maintained with Action Commands. Each character has their own Ally Buffs as follows:

  • Mario's icon from Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) Mario: Action Gauge (2 points at 2~4 Chain, 4 points at 5+ Chain)
  • Mallow's icon from Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) Mallow: Mg. Attack (+10% at 2 Chain (overridden by Shooting Star Shot's +12%), +20% at 3~4 Chain, +25% at 5 Chain)
  • Geno's icon from Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) Geno: Attack (+3% at 2 Chain, +6% at 3~4 Chain, +12% at 5+ Chain; all always overridden by Shooting Star Shot's +12%) and Speed (+10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, +24% at 5 Chain; all always overridden by Shooting Star Shot's +24%)
  • Bowser's icon from Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) Bowser: Defense (+10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, +25% at 5 Chain)
  • Princess Peach's icon from Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) Peach: Mg. Defense (+10% at 2 Chain, +20% at 3~4 Chain, +25% at 5 Chain)

A character's Ally Buffs are provided as long as the character is in the active party and not downed. The buffs are provided without fail by an ally grabbed by one of King Calamari's tentacles, or simply unavailable for command due to the circumstances of the 1-on-1 battle with Johnny or certain phases of the fight with Dodo and Valentina.

An action where mistiming happens and causes the Chain to be broken as a result still receives the extra Action Gauge points and the relevant stat benefit of the Chain, but the Chain itself will be reset and have to be rebuilt from the ground up for any further stat benefits.
