Peanut boxes[1] are large crate-like peanuts that appear on the Pipe-Rock Plateau. They come in two sizes, measuring either two or four blocks on each side, and are destroyed when struck by a physical attack, such as a Ground Pound or a swing from Elephant Mario's trunk. Some release items when broken, and one contains a Talking Flower. Unlike most blocks, peanut boxes sit on the ground and are affected by gravity. Some are in stacks: Striking one below causes the ones above to shift downward. Peanut boxes can otherwise be stood on like normal platforms. They are one of three plant-based crates in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and the first ones to be introduced to the player.
The boxes first appear in Scram, Skedaddlers!, in which the player character can use them as temporary shields from the projectile nuts fired by Skedaddlers. The nuts break the peanut boxes on impact. During the course's Wonder Effect the player character can use Super Stars to bulldoze through peanut boxes. The third 10-flower coin of the course is blocked by a peanut box that can only be destroyed if the player character is in their Elephant form, and some are arranged into a staircase before the Goal Pole. They subsequently appear in Wiggler Race Mountaineering!
