A garage door opener appears as an item in Doors to Doom. It is owned by Wart when Mario and Luigi enter Wart's skateboard-themed cave. Wart wants to trade the garage door opener for one of the Mario Bros.' hats, but because of Wart's size, the Mario Bros. argue over whose head is bigger, requiring the reader to solve a puzzle. Solving the puzzle correctly indicates that Mario's head is bigger, so he gives his hat to Wart. In exchange, Wart gives him the garage door opener, after which Mario pockets it. Wart opens a door behind a poster, and the Mario Bros. climb through a tunnel, open and enter an unlocked door at the end, and step outside onto a path in Subcon, where a huge garage door is in front of them. If Mario has the garage door opener, he pulls it out and presses its button, though nothing happens. Pressing the button again causes the same result. Just as Mario is about to throw the opener, Luigi takes it from him. After realizing Mario was holding it backwards, Luigi turns it around and presses its button. The garage door then opens, and inside is a lab with Dr. Sporis von Fungenstein standing in the middle. If Mario does not have the garage door opener, Luigi attempts twice to twist the door handle, to no avail. He asks Mario for help, and together they heavily twist the handle. The door opens upward while carrying the Mario Bros. until it suddenly stops, sending them flying over a hill into a pit. After the Mario Bros. land, Luigi points to a door, which they enter to access an area with barrels and Beezos.
