Pulse Beams[1][2][3] are circular, spiked mechanical enemies introduced in Super Mario Galaxy.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

In Super Mario Galaxy, Pulse Beams are featured in the Toy Time Galaxy and the Dreadnought Galaxy. They are stationary enemies that fire lasers in a circular shockwave formation when approached, which will damage Mario or Luigi if he makes contact with them. They cannot be destroyed or stunned by any means.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

Pulse Beams are obstacles in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They function identically to their first appearance, appearing in the Shiverburn Galaxy and the Grandmaster Galaxy. Unlike their debut appearance, this incarnation of them can be stopped by the Co-Star Luma but not destroyed.

Super Mario Odyssey[edit]

Pulse Beams are obstacles in Super Mario Odyssey. They were retooled with one spike instead of several and a black body instead of yellow. Unlike before, Pulse Beams do not pulsate automatically and must be activated by being hit with Cappy or enemies, such as Bullet Bills. Their electric rings can destroy some blocks and clear fog in Mario's path, but they also hurt him and any enemies they touch. Additionally, the rings can cause other Pulse Beams to be activated when collided with them, which in some cases can cause an infinite loop. They cannot be destroyed by any means.
