First appearance Yoshi's Safari (1993)

Prince Pine is the prince of Jewelry Land and the son of King Fret in Yoshi's Safari. He and his father are friends with Princess Peach, and when their kingdom is attacked by Bowser, Peach sends Mario and Yoshi to help.

In his attack, Bowser kidnaps Prince Pine and his father and steals the twelve magical jewels that unite Jewelry Land, splitting the kingdom in half, creating a Light Realm and a Dark Realm. King Fret was held in the Light Realm, while Prince Pine was imprisoned in the Dark Realm. After Mario and Yoshi defeat Bowser, Prince Pine is released.

In Super Mario-kun Volume 9, Prince Pine is turned into a Super Scope after chaos falls upon the Mushroom Kingdom, turning everyone into electric appliances. The Super Scope is later lent to Mario in his quest to retrieve the Crystal Kinoko from Bowser. While unable to speak, Prince Pine proves himself to be alive on multiple occasions by gasping for ammunition or elongating his Super Scope form's barrel, but Mario and Yoshi are not surprised by it, thinking it is a side effect of the chaos. Once the chaos is stopped with the Crystals, Prince Pine returns to normal, physically hurt by the stress Mario put him through in his adventure, but still grateful to him for saving his kingdom and his father.
