Type Speed Skating

Short Track 1,000m is a Speed Skating Event that appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to complete four laps of the course in the fastest time, with the event taking place in the Pacific Coliseum. Luigi, Daisy, Shadow and Metal Sonic appear taking place in this event in the game's opening, and the starting Olympic record for this event is held by Dr. Eggman with a time of 1:26.739. Toad and Espio appear as referees in this event.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player starts by swinging the Wii Remote when "Go!" appears onscreen, with a perfectly timed swing giving the player a starting dash and an early one resulting in a foul and the event being started over. Once the character begins skating, the player can accelerate by shaking the Wii Remote left and right, with higher acceleration being achieved by faster shaking. When the character approaches a turn, the player must tilt the Wii Remote to the left to turn the corner, and should aim to stay in the green ideal cornering area. Doing so will give the character a speed boost. When the character approaches the next straight section of the track, the player can stop tilting and should shake the Wii Remote again to accelerate. If the player stops turning at the right time, the character will receive a speed boost when they stop cornering. When the character is not cornering, the player can also adjust their path by tilting the Wii Remote left and right rather than shaking it. The player can also receive a speed boost by following a character for an extended period of time and remaining in their slipstream or can use their special action by pressing A Button once during the event. The character that completes four laps of the course in the fastest time wins the event.

Instructions[edit]

Rules[edit]

  • In the Short Track 1,000m event, four athletes compete for the quickest time to the finish!
  • Own the inside track at each curve and claim the top spot for your own!

Controls[edit]

  • Shake the Wii Remote when the count of "READY, GO!" reaches "GO!" to perform a starting dash.
  • Once the race begins, quickly swing the Wii Remote left and right to build up speed.
  • Tilt the Wii Remote to the left at corners to turn. Try to follow the green best cornering line at the very inside of the track!
  • Skating along the best cornering line will result in a speed boost.
  • Stay on that line while turning at the inside of the track for the fastest time!
  • On straightaways, swing the Wii Remote left and right once again to accelerate.
  • You can also stop swinging the Wii Remote on straightaways and tilt it left or right to make adjustments to your course.

Tips[edit]

  • Approach a rival from behind to enter their slipstream, resulting in a speed boost!
  • Keeping the slipstream boost in mind is key when plotting your course around the track.
  • Press A Button to use your special action and make your character perform a dash! You only get one use per event, so make it count!
