Hidden e-Reader Levels[edit]

Through hacking, the game reveals 13 e-Reader level entries in the North American version and 14 in the Japanese version. The game was created by the American division of Nintendo Software Technology Corporation; because of this, the levels in the North American release are prototypes of the ones found in the Japanese release, which came out weeks later. The two versions' levels are in different orders, and all the Japanese levels have been edited to varying degrees. Two entries were removed, while three new ones were added.

An incomplete level editor exists in the game's code, and it can be accessed by hacking. Some elements are broken, and it is not possible to save a created level. A fully realized level editor would later appear as the Construction Zone in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis.
