Chewies are enemies in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake. These green Piranha Plants have stems and leaves that are depicted as purple in game, and green in artwork. Chewies have high attack and magic attack and are usually accompanied by Beezos and other enemies. In battle, they use the fire attacks Hot Shot and Fire Saber, and can also put party members to sleep with Pollen Nap.
In the original game, outside of battle, Chewies share the same red color as ordinary Piranha Plants. The Bean Valley section of the Nintendo Power guide mistakenly calls them Smilaxes, which is a separate enemy with the same overworld sprite.[1] The remake uses the correct coloration in the overworld. A related enemy, Whuhoh, is a Chewy with a red stem and leaves that disguises itself as a treasure box.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Chewies are mentioned briefly by Viridi during Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.
