The Double Cross Ranch is a ranch owned by Billy the Koopa, located in Sudden Death Valley. Not much is revealed about the Double Cross Ranch, except that it is used by Billy the Koopa as a hideout in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "The Provolone Ranger". On the ranch is a pen where Ostros were once kept, until they were freed by Mario. The symbol of the Double Cross Ranch is two Xs, which represent double crosses.
History[edit]
Billy the Koopa and a Koopa Troopa, having successfully hijacked Mario's stagecoach, along with Luigi, Princess Toadstool, Toad, and their trunk full of Gold Coins, abandon Mario in the middle of Sudden Death Valley, and takes off for the Double Cross Ranch, where they tie Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad each to a chair in the ranch's den.
Later on, a Koopa Troopa alerts Billy the Koopa that a masked plumber by the name of the Provolone Ranger is looking for him. Upon hearing this, Billy the Koopa rounds up the rest of his Koopa Troopas and sets out to trap the Provolone Ranger. Although he fails to capture Mario, Billy the Koopa instead comes back with Pronto, Mario's newfound ally, and ties him to chair next to Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad.
Mario eventually finds his way to the Double Cross Ranch, and attacks the Pokey that was at the gate. Nothing more than a head, the Pokey bounces inside to alert Billy the Koopa of the Provolone Ranger's arrival. As Billy the Koopa orders his Koopa Troopas to attack, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, Toad and Pronto manage to pull their chairs over to the window, so they can observe Mario's entrance.
A Koopa Troopa attempts to shoot Mario with a Cobrat from atop the balcony, but he misses, and instead Mario shoots him with a miniature silver plunger, causing him to fall into the Ostros' water basin. Before more Koopa Troopas can attack Mario, he uses his gun-slinging skills to open the Ostro pen, causing them to flee from the ranch, trampling all the Koopa Troopas in their path.
Billy the Koopa sees that his forces had been depleted and flees from the ranch on his own Ostro, bringing with him a pouch containing the Gold Coins he stole. Mario succeeds in stealing back the coins from Billy the Koopa, and returns to the Double Cross Ranch to free his friends.
What became of the Double Cross Ranch after these events remains unknown, as it was never seen again.
