- “...Now for your next challenge. You must defeat me!”
- —Hoohooros, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Hoohooros is the ancient stone guardian of Hoohoo Mountain that appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. It was built by the ancient Hoohoo civilization. Hoohooros resembles the top half of a man, albeit more angular and grey (gold in its normal form), and without any visible hands or fingers at the ends of its arms. Its name is a pun on "hoohoo."
When Mario and Luigi meet Hoohooros, the stone idol tests the brothers' ability to use the Spin Jump technique through a timed minigame: the Mario Bros. must get 10 Hoohoo Spirits within a time limit of 30 seconds (35 seconds in the remake) using their Spin Jump, without falling on the ground once. After completing the minigame, it gives the Bros. their next test: fight the stone guardian itself. It then takes on a darker and more shadowy form before starting the battle. Upon defeat, Hoohooros congratulates them and allows Mario and Luigi to proceed with their next "test" of reaching the mountain's summit. The surrounding Hooroglyphs glow as a platform extends out for the Bros. to High Jump onto and resume their climb.
Battle[edit]
At the start of the battle, Hoohooros hides within one of two Hooroglyph-covered pillars. Each of the pillars attack by drawing energy from the ground or the other pillar, and fire a laser at Mario or Luigi which must be dodged by jumping. Destroying the pillar Hoohooros is hiding under causes it to move to the other pillar and summon another to replace it (Hoohooros will have an ellipsis appear above its head a few seconds before it moves). This requires the Bros. to break the other pillar first; destroying Hoohooros's pillar after will cause him to move out into the open, where it can be damaged. While exposed, Hoohooros attacks by firing a laser beam that sweeps across the ground; the Mario Bros. must jump over it one at a time. After a couple of turns, the stone guardian attempts to move to the other pillar as usual, but remains exposed if it is not present.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Hoohooros gains the Fury status upon losing half its HP or more, and begins attacking faster and more often each turn like most other bosses.

Trivia[edit]
- In the E3 2003 demo of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Hoohooros is given the rough translation of "Ufross".[1] Additionally, the boss dialog is given a rough translation.[2]
- There is a glitch that can trigger if Mario and Luigi destroy the pillar that Hoohooros is hiding under with one of their Bros. Attacks and learn that Bros. Attack's Advanced Command. If that happens when the opposite pillar is still out of commission, instead of attacking, it will watch the Bros. forever. To fix this glitch, the player must turn off the Game Boy Advance.
- There is another glitch that can trigger if Mario and Luigi destroy both pillars with Advanced Splash Bros. Both pillars will remain even though the pillar break effect shows; the pillar Hoohooros is under will be invisible while the one it is not under looks normal. To fix this glitch, the player must simply destroy the pillars normally and the fight will resume as normal.
