History[edit]

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Petal Guys are enemies in the Yoshi's Island series, being introduced in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its reissue and returning in Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island. A Petal Guy's behavior involves it crouching down, using the flowers on its head to disguise itself as a flowerbed, so that when a Yoshi approaches, the Petal Guy begins trying to harm him. Only the red-robed variation appears in Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island, though the latter game features artwork for the green-robed variant. In Yoshi's New Island, Petal Guys appear in Don't Fear the Spear only.

Mario Party series[edit]

Mario Party Advance[edit]

“Eyes like the ocean, nose like a mountain, mouth like the shining Sun, you are my earth! And I, a lone spaceman, crash into your love.”
Petal Guy, Mario Party Advance

A Petal Guy is a character in Mario Party Advance. He has a role in the Shroom City mode, where he is in love with Flutter. When the player arrives at the Petal House, Petal Guy asks the player to deliver his poem to Flutter. However, upon arriving at her floor in the Mushroom Condo, Petal Guy arrives, saying that he was also searching for his love. He then recites the poem, hoping that she will love him, but fails. It is presumed he made some more attempts before giving up. According to the ending, he gave up poetry, and started carpentry.

Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]

A Petal Guy makes a cameo in Mario Party: Star Rush. There is a painting of it sitting in a vase at the end of the Fruit Parade minigame, on a wall in the background along with paintings of Shy Guys and a Spear Guy.

Mario Kart series[edit]

Petal Guys are spectators in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Tour. They appear in the background of the Yoshi's Island course. Unlike in Yoshi's New Island and Yoshi's Crafted World, they come in various colors again, such as red and green; exclusively in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a blue-robed Petal Guy variant makes its debut.

Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]

Petal Guys are enemies in Yoshi's Crafted World. They wear flowers made of cut paper, matching the game's thematic art styles. Only the green-robed Petal Guys make an appearance. Petal Guys have flowers that are now differently-colored pink, yellow and purple. Petal Guys can be defeated from being jumped on, but their flowers protect them from all attacks until they reveal themselves.
