Directional Lifts[1][2] are objects in Super Mario Bros. 3. They are block-like platforms with arrows emblazoned on them. Directional Lifts appear in only two levels: World 4-Fortress 2 and World 7-6. When stood on, a Directional Lift releases a decolored form of itself and moves Mario or Luigi to the direction the arrow wheel is pointing. There is another Directional Lift with an exclamation mark on it, and if the player character steps on it, he can control the direction of the platform up, left, or right when he jumps. However, if the player character stands still while the platform is moving and stumbles upon an obstacle, such as a wall, the platform keeps moving or disappears, causing him to fall.
