The Topman Tribe is a faction of robots that first appears in Super Mario Galaxy. Topmen resemble tops and are always spinning, trying to attack Mario (or Luigi). They appear in the Battlerock Galaxy, Buoy Base Galaxy, and Dreadnought Galaxy. They travel throughout space in top-shaped flying saucers and are led by Topmaniac. They are very weak to electricity, as spinning them into electric currents instantly defeats them (with the exception of Topmaniac).
There are three types of Topmen. Topminis are a small yellow variety of Topmen that reflect the player off if touched. They can be defeated via a spin. An additional variety, known as Spring Topmen, are bigger than the Topminis. The player can jump off of Spring Topmen like a spring. The third variety is called the Spiky Topman, which is the same size as the Spring Topman. The player cannot jump on Spiky Topmen due to the large spikes on their heads, which damage the player if touched.
All three types of Topmen make a minor appearance in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the Space Storm Galaxy. The Topmen have also been seen in a Mario Kart Wii competition in Wi-Fi, exclusively in the Galaxy Colosseum course.
