List of beanholes in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
- This article is about the beanholes in the original game. For the Bean Hollows in the remake, see List of Bean Hollows in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario and Luigi can collect Chuckle Beans by coming across beanholes -- X-shaped bean spots or other distinguishing features on the ground -- all throughout the Beanbean Kingdom. To retrieve these beans, Mario must perform Luigi Dunk to hammer Luigi into the beanhole, then by popping out of the ground at the spot, Luigi will uncover the bean.
Most beanholes are visible to the player; however, some are not. To retrieve beans from invisible beanholes, Luigi must hammer Mario from behind to turn him into Mini-Mario. As Mini-Mario, he can detect hidden beans from underneath when a flashing "!" sign appears over his head, which becomes large if he is directly on the beanhole. Then as regular Mario, he can perform Luigi Dunk on Luigi at that spot to retrieve the bean. Sometimes these particular beanholes are found in certain plants, near statues, or other distinct patterns on the ground. Another way of finding hidden beanholes is by playing Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on the Game Boy Player, then using the rumble feature on the Nintendo GameCube Controller to locate the beanhole. These methods are also used to retrieve Beanstones and Bean Fruit. In the remake, these hidden beanholes are now visible.
There are a total of 197 Chuckle Beans to collect from beanholes: 138 from visible holes, and 59 from hidden ones. This page shows the locations of each one and how to get to them. Hidden ones are marked with the icon.
Mushroom Kingdom, Koopa Cruiser, Stardust Fields, Beanbean Castle Town, Beanbean Castle, Beanbean Castle Sewers, Little Fungitown, Guffawha Ruins, and the S.S. Chuckola do not have any beanholes at all.
