In ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'', an inn can be found in almost every settlement, and are identified by a sign on the building depicting a bed. Unlike ''Paper Mario'', Mario will need to pay [[coin]]s in order to stay the night. Each inn has their own price, but they will allow Mario to stay the night for free in exchange for an [[Inn Coupon]]. Some inns will leave out food while Mario is resting that can be collected once he awakens. If Mario sleeps in an inn 50 times, the innkeeper will throw a celebration and hire a [[Lakitu#Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door|Cameraman Lakitu]] to photograph the occasion. The innkeeper will reward Mario for his patronage with 200 [[coin]]s.

Inns appear in RPGs of the Super Mario franchise as places where Mario and his party members, for a small fee, can go to sleep to refill their stats such as HP, FP (or BP in the Mario & Luigi series), and, exclusively in the first two entries of the Paper Mario series, SP. The price varies by location; inns located in places visited later in the game usually have higher prices.

Super Mario RPG[edit]

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake, inns are generally distinguished by a spinning star sign. The inns at Marrymore and Nimbus Land offer extra services or goods (usually netting the player a rare item, or at least granting a chance of getting one) in exchange for an additional fee.

Paper Mario series[edit]

Paper Mario's Toad Houses serve the same function as inns, with the main difference being that they are free of charge.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, an inn can be found in almost every settlement, and are identified by a sign on the building depicting a bed. Unlike Paper Mario, Mario will need to pay coins in order to stay the night. Each inn has their own price, but they will allow Mario to stay the night for free in exchange for an Inn Coupon. Some inns will leave out food while Mario is resting that can be collected once he awakens. If Mario sleeps in an inn 50 times, the innkeeper will throw a celebration and hire a Cameraman Lakitu to photograph the occasion. The innkeeper will reward Mario for his patronage with 200 coins.

The Great Tree does not have an inn, but HP and FP can be recovered using a Recovery Block near the entrance. Glitzville also lacks an inn, but HP and FP can be recovered for free by using the beds in the Glitz Pit locker rooms and the champion's room. Mario can also use a bed in Cabin #5 while traveling on the Excess Express. Unlike inns however, none of these options (except for the bed in the champion's room) will recover Star Power.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

Inns also appear in Super Paper Mario, where, like in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, they may provide bonus items to the player. However, they are much less prevalent (appearing only in Flipside and Flopside), due to the high frequency of ? Blocks containing HP-restoring Mushrooms (as well as Super Mushrooms and Ultra Mushrooms). They are once again marked with a bed sign.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]

There are two inns in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team: one in Pi'illo Castle, and the other in Wakeport. Both of these inns cost ten coins to stay in, and they fully recover Mario and Luigi's HP and BP. Each time Mario and Luigi stay at the Wakeport inn, they are given one item by the owner in the following order: a Mushroom, a Taunt Ball, a Syrup Jar, a Boo Biscuit, and a Nut. After giving the last item, the owner no longer gives items to Mario and Luigi if they stay at the inn again.
