- Not to be confused with Galoomba.
A Gloomba is an enemy that appears in the Paper Mario series. Its body structure is the same as an ordinary Goomba, but its skin color is navy blue. It can be found underground, and is more powerful than its surface-dwelling counterpart. The coloration of a Gloomba resembles those of the Goombas found in underground levels in Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (especially their appearance in the Super Mario All-Stars versions of both games), while their name is a portmanteau of "gloom" and "Goomba."
History
Paper Mario
A Gloomba makes its debut in Paper Mario, and it appears appear solely in Toad Town Tunnels, where they are the most basic enemy. Like normal Goombas, it is vulnerable to every type of attack, but is much more durable than them. It appears alongside Paragloombas and Spiked Gloombas.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its remake, a Gloomba inhabits the early floors of the Pit of 100 Trials along with its subtypes. This game reveals that the Gloombas' coloration is a result of not being exposed to any sunlight. They act effectively the same as before, but are slightly stronger.
Super Paper Mario
In Super Paper Mario, a Gloomba initially appears in the underground portion of World 3-1, The Bitlands, where it stands in for the underground colored Goombas from Super Mario Bros. Later, it can be found at Castle Bleck Foyer and the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials. Its subtypes are not present in this game. In the Prima strategy guide, it is stated that a Gloomba can poison the player,[1] though this is false.

Log | A Goomba that likes dark, damp places. It must look like that because it lives below ground! | ||||||
Tattle | That's a Gloomba. It likes dark, damp places. Max HP is 7, Attack is 3, and Defense is 0. It's stronger than a normal Goomba, so be careful. That's not a healthy color for a Goomba, but it doesn't mean it's sick or anything. So don't show any mercy! |
