Semisolid Platforms in Super Mario Bros. 3 appear as plain-colored blocks with bolts in the corners, grassy hills, grassy plateaus (in World 3-7 only), snowy hills (in World 6), or crates (in airship levels). They first appeared in World 1-1.

White platforms (called White Blocks)[3] have the special property of allowing Mario to fall into the background, behind most objects, by crouching on them for an extended time. If, as is possible in World 1-3, the goal area is reached in this state, Mario is transported to a special Toad House to receive a Magic Whistle.

Super Mario World[edit]

Slanted Semisolid Platforms appear in Super Mario World along with regular Semisolid Platforms and can be slid on, similar to slopes.

New Super Mario Bros. subseries[edit]

Semisolid Platforms appear in New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, and New Super Luigi U. While they have new, varying designs throughout the series, the most common design in all games is that consisted of small blocks placed next to each other, resembling Super Mario Maker's bridge object. Others resemble big rocks with grass on top. Certain Semisolid Platforms in New Super Mario Bros. 2 are based off their design from Super Mario Bros. 3. Other bridge-like ones resemble the ones in the Yoshi's Island series, but alternate between large and small segments. In New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U, some Semisolid Platforms move up and down.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Semisolid Platforms appear in Super Mario Galaxy, but only in the vertical portion of the Matter Splatter Galaxy. Here they resemble bright pink grates.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS[edit]

Semi-solid Platforms appear as placeable course parts in Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS. They have three designs in each combination of level theme and game style, which can be cycled through by shaking them. In the Super Mario Bros. style, Semi-solid Platforms take their default design from the otherwise solid, tree-like platforms from that game. Additionally, Lifts, Lava Lifts, Mushroom Platforms, Donut Blocks, Bridges, and Cloud Blocks can be jumped through similar to Semi-solid Platforms.

In the Super Mario Bros. 3 style, if Mario crouches on the white platforms for long enough, he will hop slightly, referencing the special property of the white platforms from that game, though not letting Mario drop behind the platform.

Super Mario Run[edit]

Semisolid platforms appear commonly in Super Mario Run, with their designs pulled from Super Mario Maker. Their appearance is based on the theme of the level. Enemies located on a semisolid platform can be defeated by having the playable character perform a front flip as they jump through the platform onto the enemy.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

Semisolid Platforms return in Super Mario Maker 2, using their designs from the first game in the original four styles and getting new designs for the newly added themes. In the Super Mario 3D World style, Semisolid Platforms only have one design per level theme: they take the form of horizontal, ladder-like platforms on top of walls in the ground, Ghost House, and desert themes, and Chain-Links in every other theme. Cat Mario can also climb the Semisolid Platforms' walls, but unlike normal walls, he can stay on them indefinitely.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]

Semisolid Platforms return in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, along with sloped platforms from Super Mario World. Semisolid Platforms that come to life and grow eyes and legs also appear during Wonder Effects. One variant follows the player wherever they go, and the other only moves when the player stands on specific areas of one.

Wario Land series[edit]

Semisolid platforms are present throughout the Wario Land series, functioning identically as in the other platform games, though they always have a bridge-like appearance. Many enemies that are found on semisolid platforms can be immobilized briefly by bumping into them from beneath. If Zombie Wario lands on a semisolid platform, he will disintegrate and pass through it, falling through any other semisolid platforms located below until he reaches solid ground. In Wario Land 2, there are certain platforms that only enemies and objects can stand upon, but not Wario; for enemies, these function as semisolid platforms, in that Wario can throw them on top of one from beneath.

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Semisolid Platforms appear many times in the Yoshi's Island series, starting with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Here, they typically resemble straight bridges, and can also form slopes.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Platforms very similar in function to Semisolid Platforms known as pass-through platforms[4] appear in many stages throughout the Super Smash Bros. series. In addition to being able to be jumped through, the player can fall through pass-through platforms by quickly tilting down on the left analog stick or tapping +Control Pad down, depending on the control method.

Semisolid Platforms also appear in the Golden Plains stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, where they use the design of the solid, tree-like platforms from New Super Mario Bros. 2. They also appear in the stage Mushroom Kingdom U where they, like the stage itself, use their design from New Super Mario Bros. U.

Wario: Master of Disguise[edit]

In Wario: Master of Disguise, Dragon Wario's weight causes him to fall through any semisolid platform he encounters, much like Zombie Wario in the Wario Land games.
