The heading variety of Pokeys[1] is a type of enemy in the Yoshi's Island series. This variety's grounded segment bounces a smaller green Pokey on top of it. The heading variety of Pokeys first appears in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its reissue, and later appears in Yoshi's New Island. In every appearance, if a Yoshi defeats the Needlenose on a Pokey's head, the grounded segment frowns and lies down, becoming harmless. However, it produces another Needlenose shortly afterwards, and it resumes bouncing it. Pokeys cannot be defeated, with the exception of an Anywhere POW.
In Yoshi's New Island, the heading variety of Pokeys appear only in Underground Pokey Patrol.
