Ruff Puffs are cloud enemies that appear in the Paper Mario series. The name "Ruff Puff" comes from a corruption of the word "rough", while the "puff" part of their name refers to them being puffy clouds.
History[edit]
Paper Mario[edit]
In Paper Mario, Ruff Puffs serve as the minions of Huff N. Puff, who they resemble a miniature version of. They appear only in Flower Fields, though a weaker variant, the Tuff Puff, is fought alongside Huff N. Puff in Cloudy Climb. Their primary method of attack is to ram into Mario.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its Nintendo Switch remake, they appear inside Riverside Station. They attack by ramming into Mario or the active partner. They can also electrify themselves, at which point on the next turn they will attack both Mario and the active partner with lightning bolts. They cannot be attacked directly while they are electrified. Additionally, they are the only type of Puff to not appear in the Pit of 100 Trials.
Super Paper Mario[edit]
In Super Paper Mario, Ruff Puffs appear in the Overthere Stair and in the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials. They attack by firing electric balls at the heroes.

Tattle | This is a Ruff Puff. Don't confuse them with Dark Puffs... Although I don't think the world would end if you DID confuse them, but anyway... Max HP is 7, Attack is 4, and Defense is 0. Tattle | That's a Ruff Puff. It floats in the sky, like a little grumpy thundercloud... Max HP is 15 and Attack is 4. It will shock you if you get too close... You'd better keep your distance until you see an opening to attack... Do you think it's related to the cloud Lakitu rides around on? |
