The scientist is a recurring character in the PC, SNES, and NES versions of Mario is Missing! encountered by Luigi in every city he visits. When interacted with, the scientist either hints on the location Luigi is traveling to or tells about an artifact that Luigi is holding. In PC versions only, he can also state the cardinal or ordinal directions of the Koopa's location. The scientist is an elderly man wearing typical scientist attire like a lab coat and safety glasses, though the NES version depicts him as a young adult man.
