Ima no Mario is a descendant of Mario that only appears in chapter 3 of Super Mario-kun Volume 13. He lives in a future where Bowser won against the Mario Brothers following their retirement and took over the Mushroom Kingdom, turning it into the Koopa Empire. During this era, all of Mario and Luigi's descendants were forced to work in low-level jobs under the Koopalings' supervision, and the emblems on their hats now show a "K" for "Koopa". This descendant, physically identical to Mario, works for Ludwig von Koopa as the sole janitor of his museum.

Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi end up in the future and arrive at the museum, where they learn how history went in this timeline. Mario asks the janitor for confirmation, scared to see his exact copy. Ludwig arrives and explains his worker's situation, then attacks Mario with the intention of killing him beforehand and letting Bowser rule earlier. At every hit that Mario takes, Ima no Mario becomes more and more transparent, a sign that his family line is slowly disappearing. As a last resort to help his ancestor, Ima no Mario passes a Mushroom handed down to him by his family to Mario, who discovers it to be the Kinoko Sword and uses it to defeat Ludwig. Mario decides to save this dystopian future from Bowser and his gang and, despite the help received, decides to leave his descendant in the museum, nailing him on the wall like a painting.
