First appearance Mario is Missing! (1993)

Mayor I. V. Gottserve is a character exclusive to the DOS version of Mario is Missing!, appearing as the fictional mayor of Marrakech. His name is a play of the words, "I forgot, sir". Like all other mayors in the game, they contact Luigi via videophone upon his arrival in the city, as well as after all of the artifacts in the area have been returned to their rightful locations. In the first call, Mayor I. V. Gottserve states that the city lost four major landmarks since the day before. Once all of the artifacts have been recovered, Luigi receives a second call from Mayor I. V. Gottserve, who thanks him for saving the city from the Koopas and wishes him luck on the rest of his adventure. Later in the game, a newspaper article in Kathmandu describes him meeting with Mayor Smallburg, Mayor Devotegetter, and Mayor Schmutznikov in Montana as "The 'M' Club".

His counterpart in the CD-ROM Deluxe version is Mayor McCarthy.

Quotes[edit]

  • "This is Mayor I. V. Gottserve. It's time to take off the gloves, Luigi. As you can read in the papers, this city has lost FOUR major landmarks since yesterday. The natives are getting restless, the tourists are testy and I'm up for re-election next month. Evidence is scarce, but I have a sinking feeling Bowser is behind it all."
  • "Luigi. You've saved our city from the Koopas, and the people are grateful. Thank you, good luck and good bye! And say hi to Mario when you find him!"
