First appearance Mario is Missing! (1993)

Mayor Grenewetzki is a character exclusive to the PC version of Mario is Missing!, appearing as the fictional mayor of Kathmandu, Nepal. Like all other mayors in the game, they contact Luigi via videophone upon his arrival in the city, as well as after all of the artifacts in the area have been returned to their rightful locations. In the first call, Mayor Grenewetzki states that he hates the Koopas' slogan: "An artifact a day keeps the tourists away."

Once all of the artifacts have been recovered, Luigi receives a second call from Mayor Grenewetzki, who thanks him for saving the city from the Koopas and wishes him luck on the rest of his adventure.

Mayor Grenewetzki shares their name with David Grenewetzki, who served as Chief Technical Officer and Sr. Vice President and Director of Software Development at The Software Toolworks.

Quotes[edit]

  • "Luigi, at last! This is Mayor Grenewetzki. I've sent you the newspaper stories…those traitorous turtles already have a slogan… 'An artifact a day keeps the tourists away.' I hate that! They're taking every landmark that's not nailed down. I hate to see what this place will look like in another few weeks if you don't stop them."
  • "Luigi. You've saved our city from the Koopas, and the people are grateful. Thank you, good luck and good bye! And say hi to Mario when you find him!"
