Queen Merelda is a supporting character that appears in the game Wario Land: Shake It! She is the queen of the Shake Dimension. Her name is an anagram of "emerald" and a play on the Spanish and Portuguese word "esmeralda," which means "emerald."

Merelda and her loyal subjects, the Merfles, were imprisoned by the evil Shake King and his pirate gang (who attempted to take over the locale and also stole the Shake Dimension's treasure, the Bottomless Coin Sack). However, one of Merelda's Merfles managed to escape into Wario's world, requesting help to rescue Merelda and the Shake Dimension from the Shake King's evil grip. After Wario rescues her, she walks up to thank him for his actions, only to be grabbed and tossed aside as Wario goes for the Bottomless Coin Sack instead, which Captain Syrup later stole.

  • Website description:
    • English (American):
I guess this Queen Merelda is the queen of those Merfle things, but she doesn't look like one of them… Oh, well, I hear she's got treasure, so who cares?[1]
  • Prima Games Official Game Guide: The rightful ruler of the Shake Dimension, Queen Merelda has found herself in quite a pickle. She and her loyal subjects, the Merfles, have all been captured by the vile Shake King, who has seized control of this once-peaceful land. As if that weren't bad enough, the Shake King has stolen the realm's greatest treasure as well! That actually turns out to be a good thing, though-it's the only reason Wario decides to pitch in and lend a hand.[2]
  • Guide (page 35): Wario doesn't know much about this damsel in distress, and he doesn't much care. When Wario finally does free her, the scene that plays out is priceless.[citation needed]
