Red Chomps, as their name implies, are red-colored sub-species of Chain Chomps introduced in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Though in that game they are weaker than their black counterparts, they have the same attack pattern as regular Chomps: they lunge at their opponents in order to bite them. Red Chomps are first seen in the Glitz Pit, during Chapter 3, as members of the Major League team called Chomp Country. Their initial ranking is 2 (n°1 being The Koopinator), but they eventually downgrade to Rank 3 after Mario's victory over Rawk Hawk. Several Red Chomps can also be found in the Pit of 100 Trials, on floors 54 and 59. These enemies are immune to fire attacks, and have a high defense.

A Red Chomp appears in Mario Party 7, in Pyramid Park. For 10 coins, he will let a player use three Dice Blocks and ride on him, moving that many spaces around the board. If the Red Chomp manages to ram another player, a star is stolen from the victim and given to the player riding the Chomp.

Red Chomps' latest appearance was in Super Paper Mario. These enemies are found in Castle Bleck Foyer and inner sanctum. In Chapter 8-2, several Red Chomps are hiding in the basements, waiting for Mario and his allies to fall into one of Mimi's traps. *In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Goombella suggest that Red Chomps are actually Chain Chomps that were painted red while they were sleeping. However, this is but an unconfirmed rumor.

*In Super Paper Mario, Tippi mentions that it likes pizza sauce. This could be a joke on the fact that the Chain-Chomp's appearance is like Pac-Man, who was based on a pizza. It could also be a joke on its red coloring - the same color as pizza sauce.

*Oddly, in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Red Chomps are weaker then regular Chain Chomps, while in Super Paper Mario, the exact opposite is true.

*There have been several instances in the series where Chain Chomps bear similar appearances to Red Chomps:
**In Super Mario Sunshine, when Chain Chomplets and the Chain Chomp have a fever, their metal bodies and chains are colored flame-red.
**When a Chain Chomp gets angry, they can change their body color red, such as in Mario Power Tennis along with its Wii port and Mario Party 8 minigame Chain-Chomp Challenge and the extra minigame Chomping Frenzy respectively, strongly resembling Red Chomps.
**When a Yoshi throws a red yarn ball at a Frame Chomp in Yoshi's Woolly World and its 3DS port, the Chomp Rock resembles a Red Chomp. Red-colored Chomp Rocks can also be found in some levels.

Paper Mario series[edit]

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Chomp Country
Chomp Country, a group of two Red Chomps in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Red Chomps take the role of Stone Chomps from the first game from being the weaker counterparts of Chain Chomps in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its remake. Their color is rumored to be as a result of being painted in their sleep.[1][2] The first time Red Chomps are seen is at the Glitz Pit, during Chapter 3, as members of the Major League team called Chomp Country. Their initial ranking is 2, but they eventually downgrade to Rank 3 when Mario defeats them. Several Red Chomps also appear on floors 54 and 59 of the Pit of 100 Trials, invulnerable to fire attacks and having a high defense rating.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

Red Chomps are found in the Castle Bleck Interior and inner sanctum in Super Paper Mario, in addition to being the last enemy fought in the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials before the Wracktail fight, in the 98th room. Several Red Chomps hide in the basements in Chapter 8-3. Red Chomps are stronger than regular Chain Chomps, unlike the previous game. Their color is suggested to be from craving pizza sauce.[3]

WarioWare: Touched![edit]

A Red Chomp appears in the souvenir "Reel-to-Reel" from WarioWare: Touched![4]

Mario Party 7[edit]

A Red Chomp inhabits a palace on the left side of Pyramid Park in Mario Party 7.[5] The player can ride it for 10 coins and use three Dice Blocks to have the Red Chomp move around the board, stealing Stars from opponents along the way.[6] The Snack Orb can protect players from having their Star stolen.
