The police officer is a recurring character in the PC, SNES, and NES versions of Mario is Missing! They are depicted as adults with the police uniform attire. In the PC and SNES versions, the officer is a woman; in the NES version, they appear more androgynous.

Luigi can find the police officer in every city he goes to. Luigi can ask the police officer hints on the location Luigi is travelling to or ask them about the artifacts that Luigi is holding. In the PC versions, Luigi can also ask the police officer where she saw the nearby Koopa stating the cardinal or ordinal directions of the Koopa's location.
