Shy-Guys on Stilts first appear in ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'' and reappear in [[Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3|its enhanced port]]. [[Shy-Guys On Stilts|World 1-6]] is named after them and contains color variations. A Shy-Guys on Stilts walks along before changing direction upon encountering an edge or a wall. A [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshi]]'s tongue can only push the Shy-Guy on Stilts a bit further. They become regular Shy-Guys when jumped on. A Shy-Guy on Stilts can be defeated directly by throwing an [[Yoshi Egg|egg]] at it. Bumping Shy-Guys on Stilts into water causes them to sink, but if the water is shallow enough, they can slowly walk back to shore.

Stilt Guys, also known as Shy-Guys on Stilts[1] (alternatively Shy Guys On Stilts or Shy Guys on Stilts[2]) or Stilted Shy Guys,[3] are a variant of Shy Guy that walks on stilts, which are mostly shoed with what look like large Shy Guy boots.

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]

Shy-Guys on Stilts first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and reappear in its enhanced port. World 1-6 is named after them and contains color variations. A Shy-Guys on Stilts walks along before changing direction upon encountering an edge or a wall. A Yoshi's tongue can only push the Shy-Guy on Stilts a bit further. They become regular Shy-Guys when jumped on. A Shy-Guy on Stilts can be defeated directly by throwing an egg at it. Bumping Shy-Guys on Stilts into water causes them to sink, but if the water is shallow enough, they can slowly walk back to shore.

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

Shy Guys on Stilts return as enemies in Yoshi's Island DS. The length of the stilts varies, like in Yoshi's Story, with the longest taking up both screens. Stilts were made into a usable item, and the game adds a giant mechanical version named Big Guy the Stilted. Baby Bowser can spit a fireball at the stilts of a Shy Guys on Stilts to bump the Shy Guy down to the midway of the stilts' length.

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

Stilt Guys retain their role of being enemies in Yoshi's New Island. Unlike before, Yoshi can eat a Stilt Guy from behind. Stilt Guys' pink counterparts from Yoshi's Story also appear, now with a design that matches regular pink Shy Guys.

Yoshi's Story[edit]

Shy Guys On Stilts ride stilts of three different lengths in Yoshi's Story. Like before, landing on a Shy Guy On Stilts causes it to fall off and become a regular Shy Guy. The blue-robed variation appears for the first time.

Paper Mario[edit]

Two Stilt Guys are the second wave of Shy Guys fought before the boss battle with General Guy in Paper Mario. Upon being ordered into battle, the Stilt Guys walk towards Mario and his partner and attempt to bounce on them with their long stilts, with a chance of missing. A Stilt Guy can fall off of its stilts and become a regular Shy Guy from either Mario's jump or Quake Hammer. The tattle contains a nod to their original name.[4]

Yoshi's Woolly World / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]

Stilt Guys return in Yoshi's Woolly World and its remake, behaving the same as before. They are crafted out of wool strings and walk on two long, thin weaving sticks that resemble stilts, with their design being consistent with the game's aesthetics. Stilt Guys have the same shoe color as Shy Guys, unlike Yoshi's New Island. The stilts serve as a shield: Yoshi can only eat a Stilt Guy from behind. Eating its stills or trying to eat the Stilt Guy from the front only pushes it away. If Yoshi throws a yarn ball at a Stilt Guy from the back, it becomes caged inside the string of the yarn, It drops its stilts and is defeated in short order in the same way normal Shy Guys are. A Stilt Guy can be temporarily immobilized by a throwing a yarn ball at their stilts or at the Stilt Guy from the front which makes the yarn wraps around its stilts. Further yarn balls reset the duration, whereas this does not happen for every other enemy and obstacle that can be tied up. Yoshi can lick away the yarn around the stilts to free the Stilt Guy early, but this does not re-create the yarn ball.

Minecraft[edit]

In Minecraft, the Super Mario Mash-up replaces the skins of the Endermen to skins of Stilt Guys. The Stilt Guys also have stilt-like arms, to fit the model of an Enderman.

Mario Kart series[edit]

Stilt Guys appear in the Yoshi's Island course in the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well as the course's appearance in Mario Kart Tour. They function as obstacles near the start, walking back and forth. The Stilt Guys are featured in a variety of colors, though the regular red-robed Stilt Guys' stilt shoes are now yellow, while the green Stilt Guys' stilt shoes are still green.[5]
