Battle text, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Slow is a status condition found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario, with different effects between the games. In the former game, it is the inverse status condition to Fast.

History[edit]

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

In The Thousand-Year Door, a character afflicted by Slow is only able to attack once every other turn. The condition is indicated with a icon depicting a purple face with a sad expression. Beldam (during the battle in the Palace of Shadow) is the only character with an attack capable of afflicting another character with this condition. Although Beldam will only typically use this attack on Mario and his active partner, it's possible for Beldam to become Confused and afflict Marilyn or Doopliss with Slow instead.

Additionally, there is an unused item in the original game relating to this condition called Koopa Curse. It can be consumed by Mario or his partner to inflict the Slow status directly on an enemy, though there is no way to legitimately obtain the item in-game.

If a target with the Slow condition is affected by Fast, the two conditions will negate one another.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

In Super Paper Mario, the effect of Slow will decrease the affected character's movement speed. The condition is indicated by an icon depicting a blue, wavy arrow. Cursya can afflict this condition on characters who come into direct contact with them, even while using Carrie. One of Count Bleck's moves applies a similar effect to this status.
