“Sydney's Opera House has become the most well-known landmark in the city. Most people remark that it looks exactly like a boat under full sail. A contest was held to design the Opera House. People from all over the world submitted plans, and a young architect from Denmark was chosen. Because of problems with the construction, the architect unhappily left the project before it was completed. The theater is built on Bennelong Point, named for an Aborigine, Australia's native people.”
Pamphlet, Mario is Missing! (PC)

Luigi visits the Opera House in the PC, SNES, and NES versions of Mario is Missing!, as the Sydney Opera Sheet Music containing Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 has been stolen by Koopa Troopas. After finding the Sheet Music, returning it, and proving the authenticity of the sheet music by answering the following questions, Luigi is awarded a prize of 1,190 dollars.

  • People say the Opera House resembles:
    • a blueberry Danish
    • a sea shell
    • an opera singer
    • a sailboat
  • The Opera House is built on:
    • an Aborigine's home
    • Sydney Beach
    • Bennelong Point
    • Opera Lane
  • When did the Opera House open?
    • 1954/1964 (NES)
    • 1976
    • 1968
    • 1973

Mario Kart series[edit]

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

The Sydney Opera House also appears in Mario Kart Tour as a location in Sydney Sprint. Inside, Toads, Shy Guys, and Koopa Troopas appear as the audience.

It is driven through in the first route of Sydney Sprint. A Glide Ramp launches players out of the Opera House and into the Luna Park-inspired amusement park. In Sydney Sprint R and R/T, an additional Glide Ramp launches them into the Opera House instead, though the original ramp can still be seen.

While it is not entered in Sydney Sprint 2 or Sydney Sprint 3, it is still visible. Inside the Opera House, most easily seen in Sydney Sprint 2R, the audience is still present, despite the racers never entering the building.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]

Tour Sydney Sprint returns in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a classic course. Thus, the Sydney Opera House also returns. Racers glide out of it on the first lap like in the original Sydney Sprint. On the final lap, racers glide into it from the amusement park like in Sydney Sprint R.
