- This article is about the enemy from Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. For the enemy from Super Paper Mario with the same name, see Dark Koopa (Super Paper Mario).
A Dark Koopa is a purple-shelled Koopa that lives in dark places underground. It first debuted in Toad Town Tunnels in Paper Mario, where it sometimes grin and start to spin around when they attack, making their opponents dizzy. It is also stronger than a regular Koopa Troopa. This is the only place in the game where it can be found, just like the Gloomba and their relatives.
Dark Koopas are also found in the Pit of 100 Trials in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but in this game, they do not cause dizziness. Instead, they are merely stronger than regular Koopa Troopas, having their stats doubled, and slightly stronger than they were in Paper Mario. They are found in floors 31-39.
In Super Paper Mario, a stronger, pitch-black, shadowy Koopa called Dark Koopa appears in the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials.

Log | A Koopa Troopa that prefers dark places. It has a very hard shell but you can flip it by jumping on it. | ||||||
Tattle | That's a Dark Koopa. It lives in dark places that the light never reaches. Max HP is 8, Attack is 4, and Defense is 2. It's a bit tougher than a regular Koopa, so you won't be able to beat it easily. But, it DOES have the same weakness as a regular Koopa. Flip it over and it's helpless. Why do you think it needs sunglasses down here, anyway? What's the point? |
Trivia
- A Dark Koopa would be the Koopa's color scheme as a sidekick character with Waluigi in Super Mario Strikers.
