Bombshell Koopas,[1] originally known as Nokobon[2] or Nobokon,[3][4] are a species of Koopa Troopas with a bomb for a shell appearing in Super Mario Land. They are the most common enemy in Super Mario Land, appearing in all levels except for Worlds 2-3 (the Marine Pop level) and 4-3 (the Sky Pop level). Like red-shelled Koopa Troopas, Bombshell Koopas do not walk off of edges, but merely pace back and forth on the platform. Bombshell Koopas are not immune to Superballs, and they explode shortly after being stomped. They do not explode if a Superball is used on them. They are somewhat similar to the recurring Bob-ombs, except they cannot be moved and their blast radius is small and cannot take out other enemies and obstacles.

In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, normal Koopa Troopas appear as enemies, and Bombshell Koopas themselves are succeeded by a Buzzy Beetle-like variant, Noko Bombette, whose name is a reference to the original Nokobon.

In the Super Mario Land manga, Bombshell Koopas are the second enemy type met by Mario and Mecha Kuribō (after the Goombos). Mario stomps on them and they turn into bombs, confusing Mario enough to get hit by their explosions. In the last chapter, a Goombo steals a magical seal from the Chai Kingdom temple that prevented it from being attacked by Pionpi, and tosses it to an exploding Bombshell Koopa, destroying it, in the hope that the Pionpi bite the heroes sheltered in the palace.

In WarioWare Gold, a Bombshell Koopa appears in the second level of the microgame Super Mario Land.
