Dark Koopas are strong, purple-shelled Koopa Troopas that live in dark places underground. They appear in the first two games of the Paper Mario series.

History[edit]

Paper Mario[edit]

Dark Koopas debut in Paper Mario, appearing solely in Toad Town Tunnels like the Gloomba family. They attack using stronger versions of normal Koopa Troopas' attacks. Additionally, sometimes while idling they will grin, jog in place, and occasionally spin around, signaling that they are preparing a special attack that can make Mario dizzy. They sometimes perform this for multiple consecutive turns, thus leaving Mario stuck and requiring his partner to attack. Like normal Koopa Troopas, they are rendered temporarily helpless if knocked onto their backs.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Dark Koopas reappear in the Pit of 100 Trials in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its Nintendo Switch remake, appearing in floors 31-39. They are even stronger than before, but can no longer use their dizziness-causing attack. In Super Paper Mario, this role is given to a pitch-black, shadowy Koopa also called Dark Koopa, which appears in the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials.

Tattle This is a Dark Koopa. Dark Koopas are Koopa Troopas who live in the Toad Town Tunnels. They're known for causing dizziness. Max HP: 8, Attack Power: 3, Defense Power: 2 Be extra careful when you see 'em grin, because that means they're getting ready to do their dizzy attack. Their defense power is 0 when they're turned over, so you should use Jump attacks.

Tattle That's a Dark Koopa. It lives in dark places that the light never reaches. Max HP is 8, Attack is 4, and Defense is 2. It's a bit tougher than a regular Koopa, so you won't be able to beat it easily. But, it DOES have the same weakness as a regular Koopa. Flip it over and it's helpless. Why do you think it needs sunglasses down here, anyway? What's the point?
