A Hyper Cleft is a bright green Cleft with purple shoes, capable of charging its attacks to do a very large amount damage, like the other "hyper" enemies. Like normal Clefts, they are spiked, so jumping on them will not work unless Mario is wearing the Spike Shield badge. Also like normal Clefts, they have relatively high defense, so using an attack that flips them over or pierces defense is effective.

History

Paper Mario

In Paper Mario, Hyper Clefts appear in Gusty Gulch alongside Hyper Goombas and Hyper Paragoombas, effectively acting as a more difficult substitute for a hyper version Spiked Goombas. They act like normal Clefts on the overworld, but are much faster. While charged, their attacks cause eight points of damage if not blocked.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Hyper Clefts reappear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in Twilight Trail, where they again appear alongside other "hyper" enemies, which now includes Hyper Spiky Goombas. When charged, they now do nine points of damage if not blocked, but are no longer as fast as they previously were on the overworld. A spikeless subtype called Hyper Bald Cleft appears earlier, in the Glitz Pit.

Tattle This is a Hyper Cleft. Hyper Clefts have more defense power than normal Clefts. Max HP: 4, Attack Power: 3, Defense Power: 3 They sometimes charge their power before attacking. That charged attack will take away 8 HP, so watch out when they start to glow. It'll miss you if you can become transparent. Their defense power will fall to 1 if you use an explosion to flip 'em over. And in case you hadn't noticed, they have spikes up top! It'll hurt if you jump on 'em.

Log A hyperactive Cleft that uses charge moves to boost its Attack power to 9.
Tattle That's a Hyper Cleft. It's basically a Cleft that uses charged-up moves. Max HP is 4, Attack is 3, and Defense is 3. When it charges up, its Attack power rises to 9. Couple its rock-hardness with its ability to charge up... and things get scary. If you're confident, you may wanna try doing Superguards to send its attacks back... If you can't, you'd better use some items, or you'd better hightail it out of here.
