“The Portuguese, the first Europeans to occupy Bombay, named the caves Elephanta for the huge Elephant statue that guarded the entrance. Visitors reach the caves by boat, a 10-kilometer ride from the harbor called Apollo Bunder. The four temples were created from cutting into solid rock. They are said to have been created around 450 AD. The most interesting cave contains a stone statue of Trimurti the three-headed god, Shiva.”

The Elephanta Caves is located on Elephanta Island in Bombay, India. In the PC versions of Mario is Missing!, a Koopa Troopa stole the Statue of Shiva from the caves, forcing the site to close until Luigi returns it.
