King Fret, Yoshi's Safari

King Fret is a character in Yoshi's Safari. He is the father of Prince Pine, the king of Jewelry Land and a friend of Princess Peach. King Fret and Prince Pine are kidnapped by Bowser in his plot to take over Jewelry Land. Bowser also steals twelve magical gems, splitting the kingdom into the Light Realm and the Dark Realm. Peach sends Mario and Yoshi to help, and they rescue King Fret in the Light Realm. He then asks them to save Prince Pine, who was still being held captive in the Dark Realm. After their Kingdom is saved, King Fret is last seen alongside Prince Pine thanking Mario and Yoshi and bidding them farewell as they returned to the Mushroom Kingdom.

In Super Mario-kun Volume 9, King Fret's kingdom is affected by the chaos that is afflicting the Mushroom Kingdom and everyone in his kingdom is turned into an electric appliance: he himself is turned into a walking television, while his son is turned into a Super Scope. Luigi and Birdo are also affected and turned into robotic heads; while Mario and Yoshi go to solve the situation, Fret keeps Luigi and Birdo company by letting them watch TV on himself. Once the chaos is stopped, King Fret returns to normal.
