5 Coins are a larger type of coin worth 5 normal coins apiece, mostly found in the Mario & Luigi series.

History

Mario & Luigi series

5 Coins are concealed within blocks in most of the Mario & Luigi series. In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, 5 Coins can occasionally be found scattered around outside of blocks.

Super Princess Peach

Five Coin, from Super Princess Peach

In Super Princess Peach, large coins that are worth five regular ones appear in levels alongside other types of coins, but they are notably less common. Upon buying a Courage Soda, every enemy Princess Peach whacks with Perry gives out such a coin, with the number of coins dropped increasing by 2.5 per every two enemies when whacked in rapid succession.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

5 Coins are also encountered in Paper Mario: Sticker Star, where they are sometimes dropped by enemies upon defeat or at a level's completion.

Monopoly: Super Mario Celebration!

5 Coins appear in Monopoly: Super Mario Celebration! as a currency. They can be used to pay for items, counting as five normal coins.
