Paper Mario series[edit]

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Waves are obstacles in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In the Pirate's Grotto, Mario needs to be in Boat Mode to swim around the waves in order to reach the other side. If Mario touches one, it will hinder his path and force him back to the start.

Donkey Kong Country series[edit]

Donkey Kong Country Returns[edit]

Waves appear as obstacles in Donkey Kong Country Returns. They appear in the stage Tidal Terror. They approach from the background crashing into the stage at regular intervals. If the player is caught in the wave as it crashes, they will instantly lose a life. The player can avoid the waves by hiding behind shelter. The waves will also eliminate any unsheltered enemies and most unsheltered collectibles currently on screen upon crashing.
