Start of the 66th Trivia Quiz-Off in the X-Naut Fortress.
Mario being challenged in the 66th Trivia Quiz-Off in the remake

The 66th Trivia Quiz-Off (originally known as the 66th Annual Quirk Quiz) is a quiz that appears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its Nintendo Switch remake. It is held in X-Naut Fortress. Mario triggers this quiz by pressing A Button when near the robotic Thwomp, and when he does, the Thwomp will open its eyes and start the quiz. If Mario answers three questions wrong, he will be forced to fight two X-Yuxs, but if he correctly answers five questions, the Thwomp will begrudgingly relinquish the Elevator Key without a fight. It succeeds the 65th Trivia Quiz-Off, held in Shhwonk Fortress, as well as the 64th Trivia Quiz-Off from Paper Mario.

Notes[edit]

Mario and Yoshi participating in the 66th Annual Quirk Quiz in the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This image illustrates a pun: "4本", "6本", "8本" means "four feet", "six feet", "eight feet" while "日本" means Japan.
The Japanese version of the third question
  • In the Japanese version, Question 3 has the choices "4本" (yonhon, 4 feet), "6本" (roppon, 6 feet), "8本" (happon, 8 feet) and "日本" (Nihon, Japan), similar to the English-version pun "4 feet", "6 feet", "8 feet" and "Defeat".
  • Additionally, in the Japanese version, Question 2 refers to Petalburg as Koopa Village instead.
  • The "That's My Merlee!" show in Super Paper Mario is introduced as the "66th Annual... "That's My Merlee!" show!"
  • There are many similarities between the questions asked in the 65th and 66th Trivia Quiz-Off. In both, question 1 asks what is hidden in the location the quiz is taking place in, question 4 asks about the location of the Diamond Star, and question 7 is simply "What number question is this?".
