Leaf piles appear in the Super Mario franchise as objects in autumn-themed areas, where they commonly release an item if interacted with.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Leaf piles in Super Mario Galaxy appear on the Gold Leaf Galaxy's starting planet, and spinning into a leaf pile gives the player character either three Star Bits or a coin.

Mario Kart series[edit]

Leaf piles in the Mario Kart series are minor obstacles in Maple Treeway, introduced in Mario Kart Wii and returning in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart Tour and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. They are also in the autumn variation of the Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe course Animal Crossing. Leaf piles of the Mario Kart series act similarly to crates, disappearing when hit by an item or racer and dispensing Bananas, coins, Mushrooms, and, occasionally, Super Stars. Unlike crates, however, leaf piles do not slow racers down when they hit them. They reappear a short amount of time after being hit. In time trials, they remain in their usual locations but do not dispense any items.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]

Large leaf piles appear in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as interactable objects in Horn Top Hop.[1] The Kongs can stand and walk on top of them as on ground, but rolling into one causes it to scatter, which most commonly releases an item such as a banana or a Banana Coin. One pile in particular hides a horn that releases a Pointy Tucks and a Puzzle Piece in an alternative fashion when uncovered.
