Big Wigglers are a large variety of Wiggler that first appeared in the Mario Kart series. Unlike normal Wigglers, their size typically causes them to not notice when Mario jumps on them, though they can sometimes be found angry by default.

History

Super Mario series

New Super Mario Bros.

Main article: Kyodai Hanachan

While Big Wigglers with the same behavior as regular-sized Wigglers are unused in New Super Mario Bros., a much larger and longer Wiggler appears as a friendly element in World 7-3.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Big Wigglers appear as stage hazards in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They move on preset paths, and can hurt Mario and company if they run into them. However, Big Wigglers can also defeat Swoops and most other enemies they run into, and players can bounce harmlessly off them to reach coins and blocks above; pressing the Two Button or A Button button will do a high jump, similar to a Spring.

They are completely invincible, and do not become angry like normal Wigglers; if Mario and co. are under the effects of a Star, they will simply bounce off the Big Wiggler with no effect. They can only be defeated by reaching the flag at the end of the level, as with the King Bills encountered much later.

Big Wigglers reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the Supermassive Galaxy. They appear on the final planet of the galaxy’s first mission, where Mario must avoid running into them to reach the Power Star. A pair of angry Big Wigglers circle the tube towards the end; they cannot be defeated, but the Co-Star Luma can stop them from moving.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U

Big Wigglers return in New Super Mario Bros. U, serving the same role as in the previous game. They are found in Soda Jungle, and appear in Wiggler Stampede.

In New Super Luigi U, Big Wigglers appear in Wiggler Floodlands, where they are used to cross poison.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS

Big Wigglers reappear in Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, where they can be used in all styles; giving a Wiggler a Super Mushroom will increase its size, but it otherwise retains the same behavior as a normal Wiggler.

Super Mario Maker 2

Big Wigglers return in Super Mario Maker 2, behaving the same as in Super Mario Maker; they cannot walk through poison like their much larger kin from New Super Mario Bros. U, and simply sink into it like most other enemies.

Mario Kart series

Mario Kart DS

Big Wiggler appears in Mario Kart DS as the boss of Level 7 in Mission Mode. Unlocking Level 7 in mission mode requires getting at least one star in each mission. The mission takes place on Mushroom Bridge and involves a high octane race with Big Wiggler.

Mario Kart Wii

Big Wigglers appear in Mario Kart Wii, where they are found in Maple Treeway. If a driver bumps into them, their kart will be pushed back. Players also had to race against a Big Wiggler in a tournament on Wario's Gold Mine that took place in December 2008 and September 2010. Similar to its Mario Kart DS boss mission, the racer had to avoid hitting it as they raced around the course. During the first two laps, the Wiggler's speed would nearly match most vehicles, but in the final lap, the Wiggler would become angered and turn red, increasing its speed. The few Item Boxes found along the course contained only Triple Mushrooms and Stars.

Mario Kart 7

Big Wigglers also appear in Mario Kart 7 where they return as obstacles in Wii Maple Treeway. They jump when they get hit by a Super Star or a Bob-omb.

Mario Kart Tour

Big Wigglers return in Mario Kart Tour, once again appearing as stage hazards on Maple Treeway. They now cause racers to spin out when touching them.
