Yellow Toad is a lazy and sleepy Toad who is a member of the Toad Brigade. He is the only member of the Toad Brigade that does not have a unique name as of Super Mario Odyssey.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Yellow Toad makes his first appearance in Super Mario Galaxy as one of the members of the Toad Brigade. Out of the group, Yellow Toad seems to be the most careless and lazy Toad in the group, as he is often seen sleeping in the game. He even sleeps in the snow in the Freezeflame Galaxy. At times when he is not asleep, Yellow Toad can be seen as a rather immature character as seen in the Purple Coin challenge in Deep Dark Galaxy, where he is seen dancing under a spotlight while the other Toads stay around the area cautiously.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Yellow Toad is a character in Super Mario Galaxy 2. He often appears in different galaxies, either available to help Mario or is just asleep like in the previous game. He is also one of the many characters that can be found on the Starship Mario. He stands near a Warp Pad that leads to the Toad Brigade's Starshroom.
Super Mario Odyssey[edit]
In Super Mario Odyssey, Yellow Toad can be seen as an employee of a travelling Crazy Cap store inside the Toad Brigade's Starshroom alongside Mailtoad, located in the Lost Kingdom, Moon Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom; he runs the yellow coin section. He also appears near the Odyssey on the Dark Side after the story objective Arrival at Rabbit Ridge! is complete and says that he and the other Toads are there on a big expedition. In this game, he retains his exploration outfit and backpack from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and also wears a safari hat when on the Dark Side. Largely contrasting his other appearances, he is always fully awake and does not seem to retain his laziness.
Super Mario Maker 2[edit]
Yellow Toad appears in the Story Mode in Super Mario Maker 2. Unlike the other colored Toads in it, he retains the personality and traits of his counterpart from Super Mario Galaxy. During the first part of the story, he remains asleep to the right of the castle, but part of the way through, he will offer Mario a set of three jobs, each of them revolving around completing a level with a Stone in hand. With each job completed, Yellow Toad will use the Stone to build an 8-bit sculpture of a different Super Mario franchise enemy. Once all three are finished, he tells Mario that he is exhausted and wants to take another nap.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Yellow Toad appears in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury as a playable character in the Captain Toad's Adventures levels, when playing in multiplayer mode. He has the same appearance as in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. He also appears in the Bowser's Fury mode, though not before the main story has been completed. Along with the other members of the Toad Brigade, he appears to have been separated from Toadette, who anticipates them on Fur Step Island. Mario may find Yellow Toad hidden below the bridge supporting Slipskate Slope, reaching by simply hopping off the bridge, alleviated with the use of a Propeller Box. Confronting Yellow Toad rewards Mario with one of Lake Lapcat's Cat Shines. As with his rarer though more recent appearances, he appears alert with no symptoms of grogginess.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]
Yellow Toad reappears in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Much like his previous appearances, Yellow Toad is almost always seen sleeping. His sleepiness is seen to be contagious as he is capable of even making Captain Toad fall asleep beside him if he stands near him. Much like the other Toad Brigade members in this game, Yellow Toad sports a uniform similar to the Captain and a backpack.
However, there are instances in which Yellow Toad aids the Captain and is seen to be fully awake. Such situations involve certain levels where Yellow Toad and the other Toad Brigade members must follow Captain Toad in order to unlock certain bonuses and tools in order to find the Power Star.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
Yellow Toad makes a few cameo appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Yellow Toad appears in the Toad Brigade trophy, and he and the other Toads are all depicted using their Super Mario Galaxy appearance. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Yellow Toad is part of the artwork on the Starship Mario spirit.
