Giant Brick Blocks[citation needed], also referred to as Big Blocks[1], are twice-as-big Brick Blocks that first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and its remakes, where they are only found in Giant Land. In spite of their size, Super Mario and Koopa Shells can destroy these blocks; Raccoon or Tanooki Mario can also tail whip them, but only in Super Mario Advance 4.
They reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2. However, unlike in Super Mario Bros. 3, these Giant Brick Blocks are indestructible (as they are too big) and act as platforms rather than Brick Blocks. These are found only in the Supermassive Galaxy. They use the New Super Mario Bros. design, rather than the Super Mario Bros. design of normal Brick Blocks.
These blocks reappear in New Super Mario Bros. U, working as they did in Super Mario Bros. 3, as they are able to be destroyed by Super Mario or Koopa Shells. They are found only in Soda Jungle, most notably in the Jungle of the Giants level.
Giant Brick Blocks return in Super Mario 3D World, where they are four times bigger than normal-sized ones, rather than two times bigger. They can be destroyed by jumping beneath them five times, ground-pounding them in Super form or better, using a Mega Mushroom, or hitting a nearby POW Block. They appear in Super Block Land. Gray variants of Giant Brick Blocks known as Rock Blocks also appear, which are slightly smaller but much stronger than their regular counterparts. These blocks can only be destroyed by Mega Mario, Cannon Boxes, or Bob-omb explosions.
Giant Brick Blocks return in Paper Mario: Color Splash in Mondo Woods. They are normal Brick Blocks that were enchanted by Kamek. Giant Brick Blocks cannot be broken unless they are colored. They also appear in the Violet Passage in the coin segment, where they can be destroyed by Cannonballs, and in the Mustard Café, where one blocks the orange Warp Pipe leading to the surface at the end of the underground caves.
