It has been requested that this article be rewritten. Reason: the article needs an actual history section and information to go along with it
A paddle wheel[1] is a round platform made up of four smaller platforms (similar to Flatbed Ferries) appearing in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Yoshi's Island DS, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U, Yoshi's New Island, and Yoshi's Woolly World. Some, particularly those of the New Super Mario Bros. games, strictly move left and right, while others travel along paths in the air like a Flatbed Ferry. Either way, the player must walk on it to make it start spinning. Paddle wheels may occasionally fall into another path.
Two platform wheels similar to paddle wheels appear in the Mario Party 9 minigame Pedal to the Paddle, except they are each made up of five wooden platforms. They also appeared in Mario Party 10 in Revolving Relay.

The trick to getting a paddle wheel to spin is to jump straight up. When you land on the next platform, your weight will cause the wheel to spin. You'll find lots of opportunities to practice, because these dino-movers are found throughout Yoshi's Island."
