New Super Mario Bros. 2
Although the Invincibility Leaf is present in New Super Mario Bros. 2, White Tanooki Mario itself is not. However, a similar form named White Raccoon Mario is present, except it is an invincible version of Raccoon Mario instead of Tanooki Mario.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
White Tanooki Mario also appears in Super Mario 3D World and its port, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. The Invincibility Leaf (referred to as the Invincible Super Leaf on the website) once again causes this transformation. The Assist Block holding the item acts as it did in New Super Mario Bros. 2. However, the number of lives lost before it appears during multiplayer mode depends on the number of players (five for one player, 10 for two players, 15 for three, and 20 for four). Furthermore, this form cannot be used on Champion's Road.

Once again, using White Tanooki Mario will cause the completion stars on the player's save file to lose their shine and the score of the level where the form was used will remain at zero. However, unlike in Super Mario 3D Land, players can restore the stars' shine by replaying the level without using the form, as well as saving the level's score. The form vanishes and reverts to the normal Tanooki form at the end of the level. Also, the Assist Block will vanish when the player completes the level without the form. In the port, using this form's Super Bell equivalent does not tamper with the shine of save file stars.

During the Bowser's Fury campaign, this form's invincibility does not protect Mario from the black goop spread around Lake Lapcat.

When Mario loses five lives in a level, an Assist Block containing an Invincibility Leaf will appear. The block emits a tone to alert him of its presence. If Mario takes the Invincibility Leaf, he will become White Tanooki Mario, clad in a white and golden version of the Tanooki Suit. In this form, Mario is permanently invincible until he clears the level. After that, he reverts to the regular Tanooki Mario. Unlike in his invincible form, Mario cannot earn lives by defeating enemies. The player cannot obtain this form in levels he has already beaten or in any of the special worlds. Because of this, Luigi cannot obtain an Invincibility Leaf unless the player skips a level in a normal world (for example, by using a Warp Zone), or skips one of the optional "black ? block" levels in the first eight worlds.
White Tanooki Mario makes his Mario Kart series debut as a playable driver in Mario Kart Tour, debuting in the 2022 Sundae Tour. He is classified as a variant of and separate driver from Tanooki Mario while using the same emblem. Despite that, when he first came out, he used regular Mario's voice clips rather than Tanooki Mario's exclusive voice clips. However, starting from the 2022 Bowser Tour, he now uses Tanooki Mario's voice clips, making him the only driver to have their voice clips changed between tours. His special skill is the Giant Banana.

In New Super Mario Bros. 2, a transformation very similar to White Tanooki Mario known as White Raccoon Mario is present, except it is an invincible form of Raccoon Mario instead of Tanooki Mario.

White Tanooki Mario is a white lucent version of Tanooki Mario that first appears in Super Mario 3D Land. Luigi's version is named White Kitsune Luigi. In both cases, the format grants the user permanent invincibility and can be obtained by using an Invincibility Leaf. Upon completing a level, the form reverts back to the regular Tanooki Mario.

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario 3D Land[edit]

White Kitsune Luigi defeating a Goomba Tower in Super Mario 3D Land
White Kitsune Luigi

In Super Mario 3D Land, if Mario or Luigi loses five lives in a (skipped) normal world level, an Assist Block containing an Invincibility Leaf will appear. The block emits a tone to alert him of its presence. If Mario takes the Invincibility Leaf, he will become White Tanooki Mario, clad in a white and golden Tanooki Suit. In this form, Mario is permanently invincible, but he cannot earn extra lives by defeating enemies. After he clears the level, he reverts to regular Tanooki Mario.

If the player makes an Assist Block appear in any normal world level, then the completion stars on their save file will never sparkle again. The Assist Block will vanish if the player completes the level without the form.

New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

Although the Invincibility Leaf is present in New Super Mario Bros. 2, White Tanooki Mario itself is not. However, a similar form named White Raccoon Mario is present, except it is an invincible version of Raccoon Mario instead of Tanooki Mario.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[edit]

In Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, if the player loses nine lives in one attempt at a course, Mario or Luigi become White Tanooki Mario or White Kitsune Luigi, increasing the amount of time needed to move Orbs around (approximately thirty seconds) and the leader's attack strength, and retains the stats, attribute types and Leader Skill from their previous form. In addition, the Super Star Music plays during the section of the level. However, the form only lasts for the current section of the level (once all the enemies have been defeated, the leader reverts back to whatever form he was before).

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

White Tanooki Mario makes his Mario Kart series debut as a playable driver in Mario Kart Tour, debuting in the 2022 Sundae Tour. He is classified as a variant of and separate driver from Tanooki Mario while using the same emblem. Despite that, when he first came out, he used regular Mario's voice clips rather than Tanooki Mario's exclusive voice clips. However, starting from the 2022 Bowser Tour, he now uses Tanooki Mario's voice clips, making him the only driver to have their voice clips changed between tours. His special skill is the Giant Banana.
